It's not just the hassle, its sticks them with a car that now does not have the wheels spec'd on the sticker so they can't dealer trade it. Buy the other set and sell the ones you don't want on line.

I was successful getting a dealer to swap a set of black Spyder wheels from one car for the same black Spyder wheels on another car that came with different tires from the factory (they were both lot cars with build dates many months apart).

I’ve had a dealer swap steering wheels between cars on the lot for me. They just adjusted the price. I’m sure they’d do the same for the other car, or maybe they ordered a replacement wheel for it. Regardless, if they want the sale.....

My new car offer was subject to switching wheels.

Done.

Took delivery of car.

I would add depends on car, time of year and dealership.

Similar story. I bought a new 2017 Macan GTS but didn't like the black wheels. Dealer was willing to switch wheels but they pulled them off a used or demo car. They would not do it off a brand new car and I understand. The wheels I got were in perfect condition so I was fine with the swap. That may not work in this case given low/no inventory of used/demo 992s and the fact that you may not be OK with lightly used wheels like I was.

Thanks!
I actually did it with my 991. However they wheels I liked was less expensive than the ones on the car I was buying.

In general, dealers won't pull anything from a new car on the lot, because it can bring a host of issues.

If there was a used one on the lot and we were a few years into the 992 cycle, maybe a swap could take place, but Porsche 911 buyers care about this stuff. An educated used 911 buyer is going to ask what happened to OEM wheels that came with the car. Macan buyers are much less likely to think about such things.

You're much more likely to find another owner willing to swap their wheels than a dealer do the exchange.
You bring up some good points, but around 6 years ago a dealer did exactly that for me on a 991. I told the SA that I really loved the car but not the wheels, and asked if they could be switched with another 991 on their lot. He checked with the Sales Manager, and got the OK. When a $100K+ sale is on the line, many dealers are willing to make accommodations.

This ^ and if you’re in a colder climate, I’d mount snows on the ones you like less...and your preferred ones on the car the rest of year...OR in a warmer climate, powder coat the ones you like less black for a different look for a part of the year. Next to colour, wheels really set our cars apart..

Pulling wheels from a used car much simpler. Pulling from a new car with the wheels connected to the vin and sticker not so easy.
If this is your dream spec but it now and worry about the wheels later. Wheels are a usual mod or update anyway.

if you're willing to pony up for the switch, then just buy the wheels you want and sell the ones you're replacing. it's not hard.
