PSE related question
1. I just heard a 991 C4 GTS start up and it sounded great! Does the 992 PSE sound similar? I'm assuming the GTS has the PSE as well as standard? Unfortunately it was at a parking lot and I test drove the 992 ages ago so don't really recall so can't form a comparison of my own.
2. Is PF bypass a simple and legal procedure? By what % would it enhance/increase the exhaust sound, or in other words, is it worth it?
3. Is PF bypass same as replacing the stock PSE with one of the aftermarket options?
Cheers.

2. if you are in Europe the car will have a Petrol Particulate Filter. Removal is illegal and will invalidate any warranty. It will also require reprogramming the ECU. They are not present yet in US cars.
3. No. If you want to replace stock with an aftermarket exhaust, you should specify PSE because to date, all aftermarket options build on the PSE.
This topic has been discussed several times on here. Worth doing a search.
The upshot:
- European cars are quieter because of the filters but in cabin sounds are satisfying enough for most people.
- After much collective worry, I believe the emerging US consensus is that the car without filters sounds like the 991.2 ie no issue.
- That said those diehard noise Feinds that want aftermarket exhausts would never be satisfied with a stock option anyway.
- PSE changes the character of the sound making it deeper (so it seems a bit louder) and more inclined to crackle in SPORT mode but the car sound is still turbo-led (hissing and whining).
- the PSE when closed is plenty civilised enough for village driving.
My own opinion:
- I wouldn’t spec it again. It doesn’t make a low reviving engine sound like a screaming NA race engine, nor does it add any performance. It’s just a bit louder. The car doesn’t need it and the quad pipes are more elegant.

1. The 992 has its own sound character. The PSE makes it deeper and louder when open.
