Need some advice. My 992 finally arrived after a 7 month wait. Unfortunately, when it was being offloaded at the port there seems to have been an accident of some kind and my car ended up with a dent in the back bumper (pic attached). AD has already ordered a replacement bumper which is being air freighted in. I’m concerned about resale value and the idea of having a car that’s been “damaged”.
The way I see it I have 3 options:
1/ accept the new bumper and demand a discount to make up for resale value issues down the line.
2/ opt for “smart repair” where they fix the bumper damage - this way it’s technically the same bumper and it hasn’t been replaced (plus it’s faster). Plus a discount.
3/ walk away from the whole deal and get my money back. Nuclear option where I’m the only loser as the AD will sell the car to some happy schmuck and I’m left back where I started 7 months ago. They have a zero miles 991.2 GTS that they seem keen to get rid of; they gave it to me for a few days to try to make me feel better.
I think I still really want the one I ordered (not to mention paid for in full before this happened... and waited 7 months for) but I don’t know if down the line I’ll feel cheated.
Would appreciate some advice from the community here. Thanks
I'm sure there are a lot of minor mishaps to the car while it is in transit. Normally dealers are pretty hush hush and repair it without the buyer even noticing it. I'm quite surprised that they notify you in this situation.

they missed the delivery date today so I guess they needed to explain the delay.
it should not hurt resale as it will not show up on a carfax as PDI repairs are not reported.
What if a buyer contacts the dealer to ask for the service / repair records? I’m not in the US so carfax isn’t a thing here. Also I would be honest with whoever is buying it - if they ask I’d say the truth.

I can't imagine a scenario where a dealership pre-delivery bumper replacement for a dent affects resale in any way. I do think you are better off getting the new bumper for that reason, though, so you have a new perfect bumper and not a new, fixed bumper.
Question... is the bumper that is ordered pre-painted from the factory? Or will it be a primered bumper painted locally? I would only except the former as it’s no different from new. Later you are at the mercy of the local body shop and how good they can match the factory paint.

bumpers are always shipped in primer and painted locally. Their body shop is good; they replaced and painted a bumper on a previous 997 and it was fine.
get them to replace the bumper. Value will not be affected. Besides I'm sure a lot of guys will buy it and it will not be an issue for them. At least the dealer is being honest about it. They could have fixed it and you would have prob never known.

front and rear bumpers NEVER effect value. The only ones that do are metal parts, so fenders and doors, hood etc etc. So yeah, id take that new bumper all day long.
While there is negative sentiments that your car might not be "pristine, brand new" ... Reality is, pre-delivery damage is extremely common. Have you watched documentaries on YouTube to see how cars are shipped?
I agree with the rest of the other comments, you are lucky to be informed, at the same time given the opportunity to do something about it.
In the majority of situation and cases, staying quiet or omitting the truth is the standard practice of the industry.
As long as it looks remedied correctly, don't lose sleep about it. There will be no impact to your resale value whatsoever.
