Default Thoughts on a 992.2 Hybrid/KERS GT3

This article has some interesting rumors...

"We have said the next 911 will add a hybrid version. That will be the highest-performance 911 of all," Blume told Top Gear. "So it won't have the extra weight of batteries, it will be a non-plug-in hybrid. We have the experience to do that—look at the racing 919."

Do you think we will get a 992.2 w/ 4.0L NA flat six with another +200/200 hp/ft-lbs bolted on hybrid/KERS power unit? I'd much prefer this than having to go turbo and losing the high revving engine.

Thoughts?

I really like the idea if they can maintain the high revving N/A engine and if it doesn’t give it a significant weight penalty.

Thinking the weight would all be in front of the rear axle and over the front axle. The car may end up being neutral-ish.

The Vonnen version has a net weight increase of 170lbs for 150/150 hp/ft-lbs .. I'm assuming from the factory they could keep the weight the same but crank out at least 200/200.

I think it depends on when they gonna release it...if you are hoping for a 4.0 high reving with hybrid.

The last batch of 991.2 GT3RS (ie 991.3 with black exhaust tips) & Speedster already using ITB and particulate filter resulting a lower HP and muted exhaust note. Just to comply with new emission standard. Not sure if Porsche engineer still have any engineer marvel to get around it.

Maybe just a smaller engine with less HP, able to rev to 12K and hybrid to provide the torque...let see...the 992 GT3 not yet out.

That would not make me happy. If the KERS is used to make up for a smaller/detuned engine I think that wouldn’t be good. They need to maintain the performance they have and only use is it to further boost performance IMO. I’m not against a 12k redline, all else being equal, except I don’t think that will happen without other negative side effects.

The majority of the additional weight will be under the seats in the hidden battery compartment that they built into the sheet metal of the 992. With the remainder sitting between the gearbox and engine.

This could very well be what happens, particularly the progression of engine size.

However, we could just see the same progression that we say in the 991, and at the end the 992.2 RS just gets more HP released to the same 4.2L engine similar to the 991.2 RS still having a 4.0L engine.

The Porsche ex said the Porsche with the highest power would be a 911 variant, however he didn't say which 911 variant. I think it's more like that the 992.2 turbo S gets the hybrid option as the 911 Turbo S has been the 911 with the most power for a long time and weight doesn't matter as much for this car, it already AWD, but extra weight would really change the character of the RS.

I think people should come to grips with the fact that 3300 is going to be the new normal for “light” cars.

RS 4.2 doesn t make any senso for GTE lemans regulation,
they get a bigger air restrictor crossing 4liters, it is bigger and applies from 4 to 4,5liters,
the current smaller restrictor is valid until 3,999 liters
also cooling and 9k rpm revving at risk with 4.2liters

4.2L is already confirmed for the RSR:

"Only" 515hp... Long way from 700-800 that this platform needs to get to, IMHO, to compete with the turbo charged competition.
