Put my deposit in for a 992 GT3!

The GT car game is exactly that - a game. Deposits, lists, etc - in all honesty and unfortunately - mean very little in many areas, especially the more populated East and West coasts. VIP Porsche clients, dealer principals, and VIP dealer clients will always get preferential treatment, even if they place their order a day after the allocations are announced.

The sad truth is you'll never know where you or anyone is on the "list" nor how big the "list" is. You'll never know how many allocations the dealer **really** got. Unless you're sitting at the dealer every day watching every GT3 roll in off the truck from the factory, you'll never know how many cars actually were delivered. It's all a shell game. There are guys (many on here) who have very tight relationships with dealers that practically guarantee them cars or allocations - which they often flip for big $$. Flipping GT cars becomes a profitable business for some of them. So not to burst your bubble, but you, as a newbie Porsche guy, walking in to a dealer off the street, giving them a $1k or $2k deposit, is going to have a tough time competing with those guys if the 992 GT3 becomes as desirable as the 991's were.
Not in any way trying to burst your bubble, just trying to educate you so you're armed with info and not disappointed when they tell you they didn't have an allocation for you. Search these forums for tales of similar outcomes of guys who were "4" or "3" or "8" on a list, and never got a car.

I hope you get one.
First Porsche, and you go for the GT3. Like we say at the gym, "go heavy, or go home!".

I think $1000 to get on a waiting list is fairly common. I've been on the waiting list since last May at two different dealerships located in different parts of the country for a 992 GT3. Both only wanted $1000 refundable deposit so I don't think it is that uncommon.
Agree with everything you said. However, the Sales Manager at my local dealership said I was number one on his list which still means absolutely nothing. lol. The VIP guy will trump me and then the friend of the VIP guy or a friend of the owner etc.
Keep them crossed.

More often than not, if you have to pay (a deposit) to be put on a "list" then you're really not on the list.

Dealer game no need for deposits when you know you will sell the car. Never did a deposit on any GT car. I know several that will not accept deposits ...........

Yep, I'd guess 2021 if the books haven't opened yet.

Hasn't 2021 always been the smart money bet for the release of the 992 GT3?
Just like with the 991 GT3, the 992 GT3 will most likely be announced at the Geneva autoshow in March 2021, with deliveries sometime in the summer/fall for ROW and US, respectively.
