1. It is better in EVERY way than my 991.2
2. It does NOT feel bigger or TOO big in any way (especially with rear wheel steer)
3. The corner exit grip is ABSURD
4. The steering is SUBLIME
5. The new 18 way seats are incredibly comfortable
6. The sound is much better (engine/exhaust) inside the cabin
7. The new inside door handle release is magic (no more push hard with elbow)
8. The nubin isn't as bad in practice as in picture, at least it feels quality
9. GT steering wheel size is perfect
10. my 991.2 CoCo mats fit perfectly in the 992. One less thing to buy over again
11. Acceleration feels stronger than quoted ratings
12. Standard brakes have great initial bit followed by progressive modulation, very firm feel
13. Bose is better
14. Wireless carplay on simultaneously with onboard systems, can easily go back and forth
15. Tons of personalization available on screens
16. Do not miss Alcantara headliner at all. In fact I recommend skipping it unless you opt for Alcantara interior. I think the cloth actually looks better with smooth leather interior.
17. Leather interior with contrast stitching (chalk in my case) looks amazing
18. Lag is much less than 991.2, no perceptible (to me) rubber band effect
Cons-
1. A few things too deep in the controls like turning on and off A/C
2. Still not crazy about the aesthetic of the cup holder (functionally it is fine)
3. Door handle on outside can be a bit lazy at times
4. Anecdotally inside of center console seems a bit smaller (from memory, I could be wrong)
5. 3 times now I have pushed up on the nubbin thinking I am putting it in park vs pressing the button (This because I am only 80% present at any given time and keep forgetting. Not the cars fault)
6*- One more - It does seem crazy that the outer two "dials" are obscured by the steering wheel -This is the biggest head scratcher of them all to me.
Summary-
This car so far has far exceeded my expectations. It is not a 993, 964, 991, G, 997, etc. etc. blah blah.. What it is is the next evolution of an icon.. If new is not your thing don't buy one but I seriously question anyone that questions its chops as both a 911 and still the best daily use, most livable, sports car on the planet at almost any price.
I just got my 992-S and love it too! I agree with everything you've said. Yes, my door handles are sometimes 'lazy'. And I've noticed a few other PCM glitches, which I suspect will be fixed with software updates.
Using the PCM to open your garage door is a two (or three) button exercise.
But it's a blast to drive. Very strong acceleration (especially at low rpms), no turbo lag, reduced road (tire) noise, better Bose audio, better PASM. It's fun even at "city" speeds. I didn't really need the "S" version, but glad that I got it.
And they FINALLY gave us a blue color that's actually blue! Gentian Blue is beautiful!
Thanks,
You are in San Diego. Encinitas is a neighborhood in San Diego, CA.
It's a nice car and all, but one local dealer has the car with ADM at $141K.
What was your car?
Not sure what you are asking? What was the sale price, or did they mark it up above MSRP? MSRP was 146,350 as configured by me and ordered in March. Carlsbad Porsche, specifically Chris Strole who is my Sales guy is fantastic to deal with... They did not mark it up above MSRP.
I agree, it's a winner. I saw one up close again and it's a perfect evolution of the 911. Very incremental, but the touches are there. I don't love the front, I think the "black hole Beetle" bumper is totally off and sans character, and the rear I actually like a lot save for the massive rear glass (why they changed the classic "pinched" 911 glass is beyond me) and the fact that the new spoiler is so wide that you can literally see into the engine/radiator form the inner angle when open, but they did as well as one could do with such an evolutionary, timeless, iconic car, imo. But yes, I loathe the nubbin.
My only true beef with the 992 is the 9A2 engine which just doesn't tickle my fancy on an auditory or "soulfulness" scale. But good to know it sounds better inside (it certainly doesn't seem to outside imo) than the 991.2. Also good to know the turbo lag has decreased.
All in all, the only way I'm jumping into a turbo Carrera is if it's a 992. I think Porsche did very well with it.
