Default 992 In-person report

Hi all, Attended a launch event for the 992- and I've got a few thoughts...the purists may hate it, but--

I like the car. The exterior is beautiful IMO, especially in Chalk- love the front wheel arches- much improved- and the 21" rears. Sport design package looks great IMO. Although the rear exhaust tips are not technically connected (which is a bit odd), the exterior visual is excellent.

Interior - I hated the nubbin in pictures but when you sit in the car, it's not as much of a big deal..it kinda blends in...I'd probably spec an optional aluminum shifter though. To me, the feel of the buttons is great- I was nervous about that - and I like the digital dash a lot more than I thought I would. The tach- ugghhh - not sure about that one though.

Burmester- it's a must have IMO- although on the top speakers on the dash, the Burmester logo isn't shown like on 991.2.

I may drive one before winter comes- keep in mind this car is basically a GTS level of power- with added stability- and weight, yes...we'll see what a drive reveals.

And yes, I do like the Cabriolets too...not sure I'd get one, but I like them.

And I almost forgot- the interior materials are top-notch IMO- I was surprised by this...

i agree the burmester is nice and i'm sure many will agree with you that it's a must have. the problem is, when you add all of the must-have options on the 992, it easily clears 150k. i specced one for kicks and giggles and it was just under 165 for a C2S.

This is a fact...whenever I spec a 992 S, I'm over $150k easily. I usually end up around $155k - and with the tax credit on trade-in going away in some states (including IL), you're paying a hefty penny for an S model.

The one thing on the 992 that I think is looking cheap: The 'engine' cover when you pop the rear lid. That looks SUPER cheap. Not exactly GT3 excitement back there.

Thanks for the review. I spec'd my car in Chalk over Bordeaux/Black. Did it look better in person than in the photos?

I have seen Chalk paint in person with a black interior , and I have seen my own car which is Jet Black Metallic with the Bordeaux/Black interior. I was super impressed with the Bordeaux/Black interior, it is nicer than the photos. The bordeaux leather is a bit darker in person than photos and it is gorgeous. Chalk with Bordeaux/Black will definitely look way nicer than any photo can capture, it will be stunning.

We had a reveal here in Melbourne, Florida last night.

I would echo all of your thoughts.

The car looks downright stunning in person (and I am somewhat of a purist at heart). The Braun shaver dose not look obtrusive, let alone ostentatious.

For anyone that can afford the entry price, I am sure you will be quite happy. If I was more well-heeled and had the extra garage space, I would have bought one last night.

Incidentally, our dealer also consigned about ten members of our club to display our cars, representing the evolution of the 911 from 1968 through the 997. You can clearly see where the new 992 comes from. It's all 911.

Looks like Westmont. I saw that chalk in the storage a couple of weeks back. Nice combo. I had Bordeaux/black in my prior car.

Yep it was in Westmont. Decent turnout but nothing as big as the Cayenne reveal last year.

I will add mine as I saw my first ones today:

exterior:

In person, it is not much different in size than a 991, whereas pictures it looks bigger. Makes sense as it is basically the same size as a 991.

The front fenders and frunk look very 993, and the bulges on the front fenders are very nice.

The front facia is not my favorite and adds a very modern touch to a bit of a throwback design. I think sport design package front will look better.

The cab looks better than the coupe to me and the cab makes the rear grill blend in better.

The bacon strips are odd looking, maybe I will get used to them, but I worry they might be the fried eggs of this generation.

The rear is nice and has a GT2RS vibe.

I was personally disappointed in Gentian Blue Metallic. I was hoping for it as a color for a 718 spyder, but it’s a no go for me. Too light and it just did not pop. But that’s all down to personal taste. I did not see adventurine green which would be my choice.

interior:

The truffle brown leather is very nice. If you are not getting truffle or agave, you are missing out. I’d skip the free deviated stitching with truffle because, to me, it was too light. But again taste. I can’t say enough about how nice the truffle leather is. A real step up.

The cloth headliner is not as bad as I would have feared, but it’s worth the money for alcantara.

The sport plus seats look much better than the base and are worth the $440.

I did not dislike the dash as much as I though I would. The center tach is really well done.

The shelf trim looks nice. The stock trim matches the switch gear pretty well. I did not see wood which I was hoping to see. Same with agave green leather. I have asked around and no one seems to have ordered one with that interior.

The center console is an unmitigated design disaster. It’s not just the shifter, it’s all really odd looking.

The new wheel looks dished which is a love it or hate it thing.

I did not play with the gauges and features so I can’t comment, but the interior overall is a real improvement on the 991.

Overall I liked it, but I am not getting one, not even a 992 GT3T. But I might get my seats recovered in agave green leather.

What's everyone's burmester settings set to? (Bass, treble, sound enhancement)?

I think I got a lemon. I can't listen to hip hop or dance music as the bass blows past level 5. I don't know if I have a subwoofer cause it's all highs? My door rattles so I have to get that fixed.

I'm coming from a Bose pro series in my Infiniti Q60 and that system kills my burm.

Suggestions?
