There is no way the GT3T will get the 4.0L GT4 engine. That is not happening. Maybe the GTS or 911T.
GT3 and GT3T will have the same engine. Probably the 991.2 RS engine.

I wondered this when the 718 GT4 was launched - the GT4 engine is more emission friendly (with cylinder deactivation and start/stop). And given the regulation landscape, Porsche might not have much of a choice but adopt the new engine (of course with 500+HP and 9k redline) for the entire GT3 lineup.

The 992 GT3 winged and touring will get 991.2 RS engine +/- ITB. I’m happy to bet money on this.
Porsche won’t worry about emissions BS with their halo 911 GT cars, just their regular Porsches.

With a 9000 rpm limit or even higher say 9500, 500hp would be pretty easy to achieve with the new emissions friendly 4.0. Emissions are a hard limit that can't be just ignored. No one knows for sure but I am sure whatever engine is used, the 992 will be faster. I am so glad these cars exist in the world! They make the world much more interesting.

Looks like it 992 GT3 touring will have a "street" derived 4.0 not the race engine of the 991.2. At least it is still N/A.

If the next "Touring" will only get the 9A2 EVO from the GT4/Spyder.
Then soon we'll all have 3 choices;
911R with non-CUP engine - Good choice
992 Touring car with 9A2 EVO from the 718 CUP and waze compatibility - Better choice
GT3 Touring with full-on 911 Motorsport engine and waze compatibility - Best choice
In fairness the R will probably remain as the best car for cars & coffee but I had to consider hundreds of variables to come to this conclusion.

Maybe they lift the 9R1.5 to 9A2 Evo base or make a high revving 9A2. The engines are not so different anyway.

No way the 9A2 EVO in its current status can sound and feel like the R engine. 718 Cup also uses another engine, more like a 9A1. And forget about this Cup jabbering - the 718 Cup engine is way less "motorsport" than the R engine (which is the base of the former GT3 R engine).

I think the Boxster Spyder looks like a fantastic car though.

On the 718 GT4 launch they telegraphed that the new 4.0 would be used in other models. It is also clearly detuned in the GT4 (both torque and HP). There are only a couple logical homes for a ~460 hp NA flat 6, either a GT4 RS or a purist 911 (or both).
If I were Porsche I would keep the 992 GT3 Touring with the proper Motorsports engine and ~525 hp. I would add a new normally aspirated model at ~455 hp with a more road biased suspension setup similar to the 911R at a ~25k discount. That car would share the GT3’s existing exhaust and particle filter for cost and emissions reasons. Some random reporter would hear rumors and see photos of that car and come to the incorrect click-bait conclusion that the next Touring would lose the GT3 engine. And I would see that article and chuckle.

All of these engines are rough derivatives of the 9A1 so I wouldn't count on a bland article like this being anything close to accurate.
Technically, an argument could be made that the 9A2 EVO 4.0 and the GT3/RS 4.0 are coming from the same place and I wouldn't be surprised for a journalist - especially the one that wrote this article - to be confused.
...but in theory, if they do release a Touring model as spyshots show, perhaps it won't be based on the GT3. If it is based on the GT3 again, it will use the GT3 motor which is probably what the current 991.2 RS has. Maybe the 992 RS will get a 4.2L or something.

Let a imagine for s minute that next 992 GT3 Touring would be hybrid + GT4 engine
Would you keep driving in the same way your 991Touring ?
