Default Who is daily driving their 992; or planning to?

When I placed my USA spec'd 992S order I was planning on using it as a DD. Once I started pricing a set of winter wheels/tires (including labor and storage fees) I thought about next best alternatives; so I leased a 2019 Jeep Wrangler 2 door JL Sport; an equivalent cost over 3 years. Curious to know how others who live in heavy winter climates are using ( or will use) their 992's per this use case?

992 CS. I bought the winter wheels because I want to be able to drive the car anytime I feel like it. And that will include trips to the Alps. That said this is my toy not my workhorse.

I live in the tropics, and will be using the 992 C2S I ordered as a daily driver. Thankfully no snow to deal with here, just torrential rain occasionally.

I have a 992 4S on order and should be receiving it October / November this year. I live in Canada and I plan to use it as my daily driver. I anticipate putting 25,000km (so 15,500 miles) per year on it. So I will be driving it year round including the snowy and icy winters. I’m new to Rennlist and it seems like most people on this forum don’t put many kilometres/miles or drive their cars through winter...I’m curious why is this? Personally if I buy something, I try to use it as much as possible and enjoy it. But perhaps I’m missing something in my thought process? I know by driving more, I will get hit by depreciation and also have to service the car more, but that’s the cost of owning and enjoying a vehicle isn’t it?

Right now, our 997.2 C4S is a true daily driver. I bought aftermarket wheels and a set of winter tires for it many years ago, and my wife drives it to work every day - rain, snow or shine. The wheels and tires weren't too expensive, and my local repair independent repair shop stores them for free. My 991.2 C4S is a mostly daily driver. Being a real estate agent, I have to use my Audi when I have clients with me. However, I drive the 991 whenever I can, all year round, unless there's snow on the ground. We're on the list for a 992 Targa to replace the 997, and by the time it arrives we'll be retired and living in southern California. It will definitely be a daily driver. I completely agree with Hesikia. Buy it, drive it, have fun with it. Don't worry about miles, servicing and depreciation.

I have a company supplied AWD luxury vehicle so my 992 order is optimized for fun summer use including long trips with my wife.

The weight of cars keeps going up so this is my chance to get something reasonably light that I can do 500 miles in a day if I need to. My last trip had 200 of the 500 miles on two lane roads through the mountains. I wanted a Porsche that would shine on those roads.

My 992 4s will be my only car and daily driven. That’s why I went with the four wheel drive. I have always driven all wheel cars as we sometimes have snowfall and I love to go for a ride in the snow. Luckily I don’t have to drive a car to work so I only do 10-12k Kilometers a year.
I also already purchased winter wheels and delivery of the car is in December.

I plan to use mine as a dd as well, but winter isn’t such a big deal in fort worth.

I got a C2S, and I definitely plan to use it as a DD. I expect to put about 5k miles on it a year as I don't have to commute. I live in Chicagoland, so I bought a set of winter tires too. I plan to take it out as much as possible, though if it's really snowy / slushy I'd use my AWD vehicle.

I expect to put 15k miles per year on my C2S so it will be a daily driver. I live in rural PA where there are only about 5 big snow days each year - on those rare occasions I will stay at home or take one of our all-wheel drive vehicles.

I 'work' from home so don't commute but I have several meetings a week in nearby big cities (NY, Philadelphia) plus a lot of airport trips and fun drives which results in me driving over 20k miles per year across the various vehicles. My wife adds another 10k-15k miles on top of that.

I live in Southern California, and only put about 8,000 miles a year, or less on my cars, (I’m on the road for work about 1/2 the time), so this C2S will be my only car, and hence my daily driver.

I’ve only had multiple BMW M3’s for the last 17 years, so if I find that I have a need for something with more space, I may go out and buy an older Subaru WRX, or something similar that I can use to haul MTB’s and Skis, etc.

I'm in Southern California and will be using my 992 as a daily driver, but I'm also keeping my Mercedes sedan for the sake of practicality — e.g. grocery shopping, chauffeuring kids and dogs, etc.

Curious how leasing a car for 3 years is an equivalent cost? Unless your lease is something like $120/mo (website advertises $280 as the cheapest), the wheel/tire set from Porsche even (which is probably more expensive than TireRack) is only $4500. Labor for replacing wheel/tires is 30min at most in a competent shop (they're not peeling off tires, they're just swapping them).

- Assuming the cheapest lease rate from Jeep is $280 (per website) for 36mo, your total cost is ~$10k.
- Wheel/tire set from Porsche is $4500 (per configurator for 19/20inch set. No reason to get any more). Say a swap is $100 (this is a very high estimate), 2x year swap on/off, that's $200/y = $600
So in summary:
Jeep: $10000
Wheel/Tire: $4500 + $600 = $5100
Unless storage fees are over $100/mo (ridiculous), the wheel/tire set is cheaper over 3 years. Winter tires should last you 2 full seasons, maybe a 3rd (depending on your mileage) - and then later on you only have to buy more tires and keep the same wheels.

My geographic living location is quite different than yours. I factored in the high probability and additional cost (past experience with a Cayman) of hitting a pothole and ruining at least one wheel which would force me to buy at least 2 tires (due to the staggered sizes). I could buy wheel and tire insurance, but again, it's a pay now or later, it's an additional cost.

Also, some of your numbers don't equate to my higher geographic expenses. My analysis equaled break even. I won't disclose my financials on this site. Now I have two iconic vehicles; tons of flexibility to cover any kind of weather, haul bikes or take a leisurely summer drive through picturesque Cleveland or Ashtabula to meet you for a cars and coffee event. Thanks for attempting to replicate my analysis.
