How many of us have actually owned/leased a 911?

My 992 will be my first Porsche and I'm absolutely looking forward to it. Negativity just comes with the territory when being on car forums, there's always negativity when a new model is released. I have to say I'm extra confused about people saying to wait for any of the upcoming GT versions though, if I wanted a GT car then I'd buy a GT car.

have owned 14 or 15 porsches, all 911s/GT3s except for my GT4. currently own a 6MT GT3 and RS, though am going to sell the RS as the 6MT GT3 is just way more fun. i'm not feeling the 992 at all, and am not even excited for the GT variants, but different strokes for different folks and wish all 992 buyers the best.

I’ve owned a couple Boxsters, and a bunch of 911s, being an ‘03 996 C2, a ‘12 991 C2, a ‘13 991 C2S, a ‘17 991 C4S, an ‘18 C4S and now a ‘19 GTS. I’m an American and have yet to drive a 992, like 99.999% of all Americans since the car isn’t available for sale here yet. I’m trying to reserve judgement. My main criticisms are things like the possibility that Porsche won’t offer a MT, added weight and added costs including built in cost of PDK, which I don’t want. All reports are telling me I should just keep my GTS. Similar dimensions, more power, less weight, and a manual, all for less money than a comparably equipped 992 Carrera S. Biggest differentiator is the updated interior and PCM of the 992. Will it drive substantially better or even different? I doubt it. As crazy as it sounds, or maybe it doesn’t, but I find myself looking at old Boxsters on Craigslist. If I’m really honest with myself, a new 718 Spyder is probably a better car for me than a 911. And yes, it’s a manual.

It's been a while for me...I'm coming back to the fold.
Bought a 2000 Boxster S when they first came out (fall of 99?). Loved that car as much as anything I've ever owned....sweet sound and balance, wonderful transmission, just an exceptional weekend car for me. Then, having to upgrade, as you do, I made the mistake of getting a 2002 Carrera with tiptronic for commuting purposes.
I didn't love it compared to the Boxster, and then I had to replace the transmission after 6 months. At the time, I really liked the idea of the factory recommended 20,000 mile oil changes (as someone who never changes oil...at least not for 3 years, or trade-in time, whatever comes first!), so 2 or 3 visits to the dealer within 6 months just completely turned me against it...got rid of it at 18 months.
Years later, after having my share of weekend Italian cars (not reliable at all, but not heavily used), a friend takes me to the Porsche Experience at both Silverstone and Atlanta to drive GT3's and Turbos. Loved everything I drove. Older and wiser, I've now decided I look like a tool driving around in the Italian cars (no offense to those that still do...just my own complex). So, back to Porsche for an everyday weekend car...looking forward to my mild S Cab in Sept.

I've owned a 1985 1/2 944, '86 911 Cab, '87 911 Targa, '90 911 Cab, '05 911 C2 coupe, '09 C4S coupe (presently owned), '14 C2S Cab, '15 C4S Cab, and '17 C4S Cab (presently owned). There's no way I would go back to one of the older cars, and I always choose my 991.2 Cab over the 997.2 (my wife's car, so I don't often have the opportunity to choose). I happen to like driving the newer car and couldn't care less about the depreciation curve, weight, sound, or GTness. For me, my 911 is the ultimate daily driver. I have back seats if I need them in a pinch, it's comfortable, it's easy to drive around town, it's a blast to drive on winding back roads, it's a great highway cruiser, and it's safe. I'm looking forward to ordering a 992 when the manual cars are available. If someone prefers an air cooled car, a GT car or a naturally aspirated car, more power (no pun intended) to them. Just don't come onto this forum and tell me I'm not an enthusiast or it's wrong to like a newer (but non-GT) 911.

How many of us have actually have owned/ leased a 911? For me, the 992 will be my first. I’ve owned and enjoyed a couple of nice fast cars. BMW M3’s (e46 e92). Current M5 competition. I’ve dreamed of a 911 since I was 10 yrs old. And now I can do it. I love the rennlist forum. It’s super informative but it’s also sad reading about the 992 because so many view it as disappointing in so many different ways. I also intend to get a MT and the uncertainty around that is disappointing as well. I’m still in but kinda bummed that impressions are so negative by the time I’m actually able to execute on this. How many of us have owned/ leased one to really have a basis for the strong negative sentiments? I hope when more of us get our hands a on the car that things turn more favorable.
You should ignore the noise and go test drive the car.

I’ve owned a Boxster, Cayman, 3 911’s, and a Panamera, my daily driver. I ordered a 992 because I want the comfort and interior tech of the Panamera with the looks of a 911. Simple, actually.

You sound like you don't have much experience with boards like this. My experience is that every time a new car is launched, people complain about it. Some people complain for a variety of reasons, but their issues say more about them than about the new model of the car. Sometimes it is budget, sometimes it is outdated tastes, sometimes it is resentment that their current car will lose value, sometimes it is because they want to buy a different brand and need to rationalize it for whatever reason.
You should ignore the noise and go test drive the car.

Or sometimes the product is actually disappointing and falls short of the expectations of a specific group of buyers.

I have also placed a deposit on a Guards Red 992 C4S but have not locked it till they make the MT available. If no MT then I will go with the 991.2 GTS MT. There is a thread on this forum "MT on 992" I believe it is called where there are some very recent spy photos of the MT in the 992 taken from a hotel parking lot in Nurnberg - which makes sense and makes me breathe a little easier. Speaking to my dealer rep he is hinting that there will be some positive news about the MT in 992 in the next few weeks.
For what its worth this is not my first 991 either - has been 6 years since I owned one and am really looking forward to the new one.

I would genuinely like to see a 'back to basics' NA and MT Carrera T or lower-end GT car that makes the current 992 doubters happy in the next few years...
