Weight of the glass or steel sunroofs?

Having done a repair on a BMW E39 sunroof, it was easy to lift, about 30 pounds. So given similar size the glass should weigh about 30 pounds, figure the drive mechanism another 10 ... so 40ish pounds? Compared to the Aluminum it replaces is maybe five pounds? So the weight is well above the CG and has a detrimental effect on ultimate performance. If you're tracking trying to get that last tenth of a second, fine, no sun roof. For those who will not track and use a sun roof often (as I have for over 20 years), it's the sun roof option every time. OBTW I'm no hairdresser.

Fair point, I also daily my 992 and track it but only manage 2-3 times a year. But I stand by my point that deleting the sunroof makes an infinitesimal difference to lap times in the real world.
