Default Is ordering the glass roof a smart idea?

"Outwards-opening electric slide/tilt glass sunroof with wind deflector, roller sun blind, and roof modules in black (high-gloss) to the front and rear of the glass panel, incl. pre-equipment for roof transportation system."

I think it looks really cool but concerns are:

1. There are gloss black parts in front of and behind the sliding part. I just know they going to get massively scratched over time (flat, quite big, on the roof so dust/dirt magnets!)
2. Watermarks on glass in wet London? Constant cleaning required?
3. Scratches on glass? I feel it might not wear well at all apart from the first few months after purchase.

I do intend to get the vehicle ceramic coated so will that be enough to cover my concerns?
Can anyone chime in who has had the glass roof over a number of years?

I'm a bit biased towards having the glass roof as I currently have it on my 991.2 and ordered it for the 992 as well. To me, it's all about the looks!

Your concerns are true. I'm extra extra careful when cleaning the gloss black parts so that they don't scratch and they of course make dirt & grease a lot more visible!

My biggest gripe is however the whistle sound when driving over 200kmh in winter and 250kmh in summer. Also between 80-90kmh it slightly whistles.

In the end I still ordered the glass roof, just because I love the looks more than I hate the whistle sound.

If you cannot lower the roof you might as well see out...get it.

I don't understand the issue. What would scratch the painted or glass part of the sunroof equipped car that would be any different to the painted roof alternative?

I was thinking the same...if there were such issues no one would get it! Or Porsche would correct problems, quickly.

I really don’t know what material these two elements are made of. The only thing I can tell you is that it easily scratched on my Macan after cleaning the sunroof. The glass part wasn’t scratched, the glossy black part was.

Just polish the plastik areas or put PPF on them if you are worried

I was struggeling with a similiar question.

When placing my order for the 992 immediately went for the glass roof, as I had it in my Panamera too and it was actually a nice to have, although I didn‘t use it that often.

when I saw more and more pictures on the web of the new 992 (ordered mine in GT silver), I did not really like the look from outside, as for my tast it completely destroys the design/silouhette of the car. Especially the huge black area from the front window to the whole end of the car, did not fit for me. Also the connection of the black roof to the black back-window does not look that sound to me.

If I compared it to the picture of the GT silver 992 without the glass roof, I do like this way more.

finally deleted the sun roof from my built...

On those picture you don‘t see the roof well, the white car even does not have a glass roof.

I was refering to the look from a higher stage, where you can better see the roofside of the car.

there are lots of pictures in GT silver with it, also the video where theu explain the new techniques, was clearly showing the weird fitting between the glass-roof and the rear-window - did not like this look at all, finally.

but as always, just a matter of personal taste...

I like the black contrast on the roof. Plus, having had 991s with glass roof and without, I enjoyed having the clear glass over my head at times, felt more airy? again personal preference. Since these are meant to be daily drivers its nice to have options.

Oh haha you’re right! Yeah, in the end it’s a matter of personal preference of course. Furthermore, you’ll benefit from increased rigidity! Less flex, no whistle sound plus better looks (for you) - so win win win!

The glass roof is very well done. No flex, no whistle sounds, no maintenance issues. After 4.5 years my Turbo S glass roof still looks immaculate.
