I find that it helps to have reference points to make size judgements. This pic suggests that the proportions are far less extreme than other pics suggest. So basically i fully agree with the need to see it live in person.
As soon as I saw it in person I got over the worry about the dimensions/proportions. Size-wise it looks no bigger in the flesh than a 991.2 C4s. I think most people will start feeling different about this car after seeing it for a few months.

What you don't know is that the guy standing there just happens to be 9 feet tall, one of the tallest men in Deutschland I'm told. So any car would look small next to him.

911 is a lot smaller when you look at it in person. It's the smallest sports car. If you look at other premium sports cars: ferrari, aston martin. they are all much bigger and have more road presence.
Actually, the F355 is smaller than the 993....and yes has more presence.
Comparing the dimensions of the 992.1 (and the almost identically sized 991.2) to a 997, the new cars have grown by a little under 4 inches in length overall, while also increasing their wheelbase by 4 inches. The width and height are within a couple tenths of an inch.
Interestingly, the 718 Cayman is only 5 inches shorter than the 992, and within an inch of the 997. So not exactly a small car either.

And the 718 has a longer wheelbase than the 992. So, in reality it's longer where it counts.
It's pretty big. I have a giulia sedan and it's less than 5 inches longer and less than an inch wider than the 992. I thought I'd have substantially more space in the garage but not really. Still bought it though.
Watercooled 911s have always been long cars, with short wheelbases. Probably why they still drive “small” and feel nimble and very capable. The 992 GTS is my first P car, and I’m quite liking it, and it feels like a drivers car. It’s a couple inches longer than my F87 M2, but takes up less volume in the garage primarily from the low height, and hence makes the garage feel roomier
