Default Paint Protection

For people who are placing orders are you getting the factory installed Protection Film? Does anyone know what product they are using and if so what has your experience with this product been?

This will be interesting to see play out. People have been asking for this for many years. Especially owners doing Euro Delivery. Wonder if it will be wrapped edges? How will this be regarding the paint curing before the film goes on? What happens in 4 years when you want to replace & refresh.....will the paint come off with the film??? No paint correction under the film, how will that be????

I'm sure Porsche will select a quality film. The BIGGER questions (to me) are some that I listed, and the overall work quality, not the actual film itself.

Definitely interesting. Wonder if they will do paint correction first as most porsche require it. Would be awesome to have every piece wrapped then car assembled - no seams.

I doubt it. I don't think their JIT production process would allow the steps.

But a few good craftsman just got new jobs at Porsche.

I wonder the same questions you have LexVan. Also, I'm wondering how much of the front will be covered. Will it be the entire front clip or just half hood and bumper? If they use anything similar to what they use on the rocker panels (front of rear wheel), that's no good.

For the price ($2,800??), even with the Porsche tax, I'd expect the front clip is fully covered.

I agree (LexVan), but you ever know. For that price, you can get the entire front clip, a pillars, partial roof, rocker panels, and behind rear wheels done (at a quality shop). I was quoted 2700 for all that. We'll see in time. I won't be in the market at least until the 992.2, so plenty of time.

I think this program only really makes sense for the EU delivery customers, and Porsche is not willing to leave an easy money grab on the table.

Very true. I didn't do European delivery because I couldn't see myself worrying about rock chips as well as the break-in period.

The initial reviews when someone gets it will be valuable.

I'm a European Delivery guy. Two so far. Planning my next one.

For guys that want paint correction I would say this is a non-starter no way Porsche is doing correction. I would guess only a small percent of buyers actually do paint correction. I’ve had 5 Porsche’s in 5 years and they were fine in my view, but I know some specialist would find something to fix.

at $2700, you can be rest assured Porsche is making $2000, which leaves $700 for material and labor.

I had my paint corrected before the Suntek was applied on my new 991.2 and the installer told me to tell the dealer to do the bare minimum and just take the protective covers off and to not detail it or even wash it. I could see marks on virtually every panel abeit most were small. but not all. When I dropped the car off the installer looked it over and agreed that the dealer did as they were told and he pointed out many more than I could see, and if they were not corrected I know some would have been visible to me. He did say the car looked better than those from other manufacturers. I was amazed at how the car looks now after everything was done and I could not find a mark or blemish on it while it was in his shop, which had more lights than I have ever seen in one space.

Only order it for ED.

Otherwise go aftermarket.
