Default Weight of the 992

According to Road and Track it will weigh 120-160lbs more than a similar 991.2 model?
I have also read that materials are being used to reduce weight on the 992, so where is all this additional weight coming from?
Engine? Tech? New features?
Any ideas?
TIA

Watch carfection 992 video on YouTube.

Basically 3 things, 8 speed PDK much heavier than 7 speed, particulate filter, strengthening car for and providing attachment points on frame for hybrid motor option coming with 992.2

Plus:

Wider front track. Increased overall length. 21" rear wheels and tires.

Wonder if the manual trans cars will be closer to the 991 weight?

Some fun math:

Weight of 991.2 Targa 4 GTS with PDK: 3,539 lbs.

992 - 991.2 weight differential estimate: 150 lbs.

Estimated future 992 Targa 4 GTS with PDK weight: 3,689 lbs.

Weight of 2019 Mustang GT with Automatic: 3,733.

Let that sink in...

Pretty much heavier to meet emissions and them planning on making this a hybrid. Gone are the days of just a simple pure sports car.

For every pound they shave with lighter materials, they add 2 lbs of nonsense.

Interesting to see what a US spec w/o particulate filter and manual transmission will weigh.
Those two options alone should shed a lot of weight.

Im gonna guess 80 lb for pdk, 20lb for filters. I think the pdk is 20 kilos heavier than the current unit.
So 100+ lb less for a US spec manual, maybe low 3200s which iant bad.. I also read sport chrono and the manual might be bundled in

In line in the exhaust to reduce emissions and make it a pain in the *** to do aftermarket exhaust. Not required on US models. 7.5 kilos.

Hate to say it I just sold it 981 boxster Spyder 2800 lbs and 375hp, and only 5 hp less than the GT4. Needed the space and didn’t drive it that much .....great handling car.

yes. Nobody is talking about the smog tech on these cars. This is a big deal... brand new tech means unknown reliability, although Porsche did great with the 3.0tt when it came out.

Also the 992 is ~-150 pounds heavier than the 991.2 & 997 which are ~120 pounds heavier than the 991.1. So you get that extra power at price of ~300 pounds to the 991.1. No doubt it will win a drag race and have improved track times around the ring but 300 pounds is a lot for having a fun drive through the canyons.
