This would also explain why we are hearing rumors of a Cayman T model.

Here's a thought: Perhaps there will no longer be a base Carrera...instead a Carrera T (with available manual) and Carrera S...followed later by a hybrid Carrera E model. Those that know their 911 history will get it.
This would also explain why we are hearing rumors of a Cayman T model.

It seems fairly apparent that they are going to follow the GT3 example and eliminate the manual discount across the board. Either to drive more people to PDK or to squeeze more pennies, or both.
I think Porsche could justify making the manual a cost option but doubt they would want to take the flak for it.

Right, that's what I thought. The guy probably heard that both a base Carrera and a manual are coming later and thought they meant them as a package.

For the 11 years I lived in suburban NYC, both my car and my wife's were manuals. That was back in the day when almost every car had a manual option. We're moving to Pasadena in 2020, and at that point I won't have my Audi, and both my wife and I will drive manual 911s. I guess I should work on strengthening my left leg.

Same. I drove my manual 997 in city traffic for 5 years. Enjoyed every minute of it, never yearned for a slush box..

Did they specifically say 7speed MT or just MT at th reveal? Any hope for a 6sp option? Not holding my breath here

R&T says "The manual will be a no-cost option and it's bundled with the Sport Chrono package":

Does that mean we get SC for free on manuals or to add insult to injury we have to pay extra for SC just to get stick (and be forced to use auto rev-matching)?

If R&T is correct, I'd bet money it's that one. (Though I guess in a philosophical way, you could just tell yourself you're paying for the manual option and they're throwing SC in with it.)
