Except no one is complaining about the engine just the exterior/interior design.

Same as on the RS probably, which is bigger contact patch. Larger diameter equals more contact longitudinally. Might also be a touch more sidewall and tire as suspension device, which, if the car is heavier overall...

Is this Porsche deciding the 911 is no longer a sports car, but now purely GT or luxury?

Oh, that's coming.... They vaguely mentioned the "particle" filter that they put on the engine for emissions.... Eliminating this will likely be one of the best mods for the car. 30 more HP for 175-200 lbs? I'll take the weight savings.

It feels like the 911 is becoming the iPhone of sports cars: big, expensive, odd design cues, identity crisis.

Global efficiency regulations have won out vs a purist pursuit. Attempting to widen the appeal while losing its identity. Is this the car we all dreamed of owning as a kid?

I still want to drive one before reaching a conclusion.

The side profile is classic and fully alright. The front different with the lines in the hood but not really off base in my opinion. It's the back that is somewhat fussy to me, particularly in motion shots with the spoiler activated. The interior...that gear stalk! I guess I could live with the car when time comes to change mine, but for someone who enjoys shifting with paddles but also the stick, that stalk is a PITA by the look of it. Might just end up getting extended warranty and sitting longer on the current vehicle

They want you to use the paddles to shift, thereby not taking your hands off the wheel ... much like Ferrari, they ditched the shifter entirely when they came out with the F1 transmission years ago, only the manual cars had gearshifts. With Ferraris, you hit the start button, pull a paddle to put in gear and you get an R button to put it reverse and just shut off the car to put it in park, there's no shifter at all anymore. McLaren, Lamborghini, etc., same deal. I'd rather see no shifter at all than what they went with here, though, it looks a little absurd.

Indeed! I would rather have buttons and a clean console than that stalk, I do not even want to call it a Stick

Dare I say it: I think it looks quite good when specified with wood trim..

The auto 'stick'? is a weird thing for sure.

i'm sure that with the added weight though it may make the base or especially the T models more marketable,

992 validates my decision.

Waiting on delivery of my ordered 7M 991.2 C4S.

Old school as I could possibly make it. The future is hybrid and video/touch screens.

I agree!

I shift with paddles most of the time, so the lack of a console shifter isn't a big deal to me. I agree that they should have eliminated it completely rather than go with the little stub/stalk.

That rear wing . . . . . Looks like someone left the trunk open.

Where did u see the weights listed? Haven't seen those yet.
My loaded PDK C2S with added weight from full leather, 14 ways, PDCC, Bose, X51 PowerKit, heavy Cocomats, all my junk in the trunk and 2/3 tank of gas weighed 3441 lbs on the Daytona track scales during the PCA Club Races where I was a worker. Porsche said the 2017 991.2s ranged from 3153 to 3682 lbs for the 370-580 Hp versions.
