What really sucks is there is no like button here because some of these posts are hilarious.

The question to me are the changes on the 992 worth me giving up my 991.2 ? I say no.

As some may have eluded to, 991 values will also depend on how well the 992 is received. There is always plenty of criticism for a new generation 911, but usually they are accepted fairly quickly once cars are in the hands of owners and reviews start flowing in. On the 992 the main concerns seem to be the added weight, the console/shifter design and the rear light strip. Cars getting heavier with each new generation seems to be close to unavoidable. So compared to most other cars in it's class the 992 will still likely be lighter. From initial photos and comments, the console design initially has turned me off. I will have to actually try one to see if I can adjust to it. I nixed a BMW 3 series upgrade over their funky shifter and park switch/procedure. Just could not get used to it after 50 years of driving with some sort of a lever to move into park. The light strip I could do without but it would not prevent me from buying a 992. Could the 992 gen suffer the same fate as the first water cooled 996 generation? Possible, but I doubt it as there is no major change to character of the car from the 991 series.

OP here... dealer cut $3k today off the 991.2 in question. Closer to a deal but now I think I want a 992. I’ll decide after the LA auto show next weekend when I see 992 in person.

What's crazy is they were moving in the right direction for the 991, as it was a substantial decrease in weight from the smaller 997. The 992 appears to use the 991's chassis (it was reported to be getting a new chassis all through development, which doesn't appear to be true) which is likely why they couldn't pile on all the new stuff without fundamentally compensating by restructuring with less weight.

The 996 was an entirely new car and philosophy. The changes in the 991.3... sorry I mean 992... are much more minor. Beyond the rear... the general public are going to think the 991.2 and 992 are the same car... lol

This one is being prepped for hybrid which is leaps and bounds more of a new philosophy than the 996. I'm convinced the 991 is the new 993.

2400 plus GT3s....the number one variant.......but limited production and possibly last of the NA engines as we were advised when ADMs popped up everywhere........) New 992 GT3 will be NA, so the market will have plenty of 991.1s and 2s GT3s ready for resale.....good for new buyers as prices will be better......

when its all said and done there will be ~15k 991 base GT3’s WW. sounds like a lot but remember there will be ~240k 991’s built in total. GT3 was the number one varient in 2018 but not for overall 991 production.
~80k NA 991’s, ~5k NA GT3’s.

ha... Another sub 5k mile used Targa I looked at cut price yesterday and dealer called me. guys say what you will but I have 2 data points on (very lightly used, Certified) 991s in the market and both cut price this week. Doesn't make it a trend, but notable nonetheless.

Sure they will,....getting close to end of year,......another year of depreciation is about to be had. Targas don't exactly fly off the lot this time of year.
Saying a 991.X will fall in price is not a revelation,....sure they will, and will continue to do so. Certain ones like GT/GTS will hold a bit more value.

Sad part is,....I won't touch a 992 until they put at least a shifter back in it and fix some of the other crap,.....will take another look when the 992.2 comes out.
If they don't fix the bad stuff,....my 991.1 GTS will be my last Porsche, on to something different that better suits my needs.

The hybrid version will be the last nail in the coffin of the 911 ethos. With the 992.2 they will have finally achieved the plan from 40 years ago to kill the 911 and replace it with the 928, albeit rear engined
LOL Jalopnik https://jalopnik.com/i-have-a-radica...911-1830753011 :

the 911 has made shifts from a sports car to a GT car. It’s gotten larger, more stable, more comfortable, and easier to drive. The engine has become more and more refined. The new one even has a fixed cupholder behind the shift lever. A cupholder. At this point, the car is basically a 928 with the engine in the wrong place.

991 and 992 differs as 996 and 997 do,
that is the same platform,
to get a new 911 platform must wait 994 or whatever they call it,
eventhough 992.2 battery, if any, is an addition on top of 991/992 platform not a new platform

anyhow way tooo much weight until a carbon tube
