No holds barred? GREAT! I’ll go after the morons that think there is something wrong with the 992. You dimwits are either in need of new eyes, new brains, or are just plain OOOOOOLD!!! This is one of the best looking 911s EVER. Finally, they’ve gotten rid of those ugly intersecting disks and went back to a horizontal layout. No hideous lights like a 996. No absurd rear engine vent fins like on the 991.1. An amazing updated interior using both high tec and tactile, touchable switches. Faster. More HP. Better handling. Better MPG. Finally, a PDK NOT TRYING TO LOOK LIKE A ***** OR A STICK SHIFT. Use the paddles like Webber and the F1 big boys you old ladies.

Such vitriol!

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, the 992, with extra weight/cost, the trend towards the Panamera interior, and the rear styling, would not have gotten my money. Just personal choice.

Sales figures will determine the 992's appeal.

22 days till I pick up my now retro 991.2 7M C4S at PEC Atlanta.

BTW, real(old) drivers use a manual.

Haha...all the 991 owners coming out claiming they got the last of the "lightweight" Porsches. ROFLMAO

Btw, sales figures will most likely be determined by the strength of the economy and capital markets.

Lot of people around here are really insecure with their purchases. Looking for affirmation... No wonder Porsche owners are the butt of so many jokes..

Good post. Very true. They’re an isolated group who’ve put a lot of money down. They’re incredibly defensive. A Porsche version of the followers of Jim Jones. Here’s an eerie example.

The Porsche 992 - a face only a cult could love.

I'm a young guy; my car has three pedals.

The funny thing about the turbo vs N/A debate on this forum is that some of the N/A diehards drive PDK. They bemoan the increased complexity and weight, all while driving a car with an unservicable, complicated, heavy transmission that you most definitely can't rebuild with a stack of gears and a socket wrench. Hypocrites.

Hate to "break" it to you, but if you have a manual in your 911, you have the same hardware, but with one more pedal to break and a few less computer chips to break.

Computers, actuators, clutch packs, sensors... Stuff that's harder for a home mechanic to fix than a hydraulic pedal.

The gear layout is pretty similar. Though that will change with the new three shaft unit.

A manual is fairly simple to rebuild on your garage floor. The PDK, much less so.

Manual vs. PDK

same trans however, just more parts for PDK to work. Non GT car 911 I choose manual just not in a turbo car just preference.

In the 992, some sources have claimed that the manual will be based on the existing 7-speed box, while the PDK is completely revised and (reportedly) much heavier. The difference in weight wasn't as significant in the 9x1 generation as it will be this time.

Fairly simple if you started A&P school the day after you graduated from Hogwarts, maybe.

Not even the dealer techs rebuild modern Porsche transmissions anymore, manual or otherwise. I agree that it would be possible but it would look more like an R&D project than a typical transmission job.

Porsche mechanics will not crack open cases, and if it fails it’s swapped out. The days on working on these in garage are over.

Hyperbolic for sure.

You can learn how to swap a manual gearset with a few hours of youtube videos. The difficulty of fixing a computer controlled PDK is in a whole different league.

You statement mirrors what I posted, sales numbers will decide the success/acceptance level for the 992.

As far as insecurity, i did this for myself (with family approval) as a reward for hard work, didn't involve anything else. I also ordered my 991.2 months before substantial information on the 992 surfaced, so that wasn't a factor.

Affirmation on the purchase? Not needed.

To justify owning a limited purpose and expensive vehicle is a non-starter. One doesn't need this type of car, one WANTS it.

Just another example of the watered down marketing.
