Wider track and lighter fenders should bode well for next Cup. Can't say I'm a fan of the interior; hopefully next RS finally gets a proper de-contented version similar to 935.
After 54 some-odd years, it appears that the Porsche 911 finally hit puberty. Based on what I have seen from the test mules to date, there is nothing on the 992 that I wish I had on my 991.1 GTS and/or 991.2 GT3T. The gear shifter nubbin, the replacement of analogue with digital, the Tesla-y door handles, the hood, the rear... It will be interesting to see how AP and the GT department try to spruce up the pubescent 911 to make the GT3 and GT3 RS look respectable. I think the Carrera design team nailed it with the 991.1 generation both inside and out, including, of course, the fantastic NA engines. It almost seems like they are changing some things for the sake of change itself (or if you listen to Car and Driver, to save money), rather than for the sake of improving the performance or design of the car. I had no intention of buying a 992, so I have no skin in this game. But it will be interesting to see the final product when it is unveiled here in LA in November.
Orher than maybe having larger presence, how are those awful bumpers and Tron rear lighting better in person? I know cars sometimes look a little better in person, but it never makes up for major deficiencies. I can’t see how I’d magically love this car live.

well, let’s be honest. It’s not like the rear spoiler on the 991 gen is a thing of beauty.
And you cant just focus on one aspect of a car and dwell on it.
It may not be as classically beautiful as the 991, but it's striking to me. It maintains the 911 silhouette, and I think that's all that genuinely matters in terms of looks if I'm being frank.
Interior might be a different story though. That PDK lever is godawful and is the most offensively ugly thing I've seen since honey boo boo's mother when she first rose to fame - good grief. Having spent some quality time in the newest Cayenne/Panamera, I can happily say that the new instrument cluster is very enjoyable. I do like the fact that they maintained an analog tachometer, but wished it looked a bit better (the ones on the Panamera/Cayenne look weird and badly proportioned, as does the 992).
Overall, I'm looking forward to what AP does to the GT3/GT3RS. If it's naturally aspirated, I really don't think I'll care too much about the exterior styling and will happily throw money at a dealer that gives me one.
I think after the reveal people will feel the opposite...the 992 improves on the 991 like the 997 improved on the 996.
I've spent some time with an undisguised prototype, inside and out, and I would not buy a 991 Carrera at this point. It is going to look old very, very soon.
Just remember, after Chris Bangle destroyed BMW styling with possibly the worst designs in automotive history, they still sold every single one and sales went up. BMW didn't give a rodent's tuckus about their die hard customers, they were focused on entirely new customers. And it was successful even net of all the customers they lost. Porsche will sell everyone one of these 992s, regardless of what we think.
PLUS ONE.......This is the best analysis as they are gearing up for attracting a new well heeled customer base (younger because the die hards are actually dying off) here in the US and appealing to the buyers in international markets, i.e. China, etc....BMW lost its cache or peak interest in auto circles but sales roll on.............
Did you feel the same way when the 996 was released, i.e., that it was a nice evolution of the 993?
of course not, but I don't see how this is anywhere near the massive changes in design that the 996 had. this looks just like the 991, but with some tweaks all around. the tail lights are really the only significant change, IMO. the rest of it would only be noticed by P-car fanatics.
