Car and Driver wrote a scathing review saying that cost cutting especially in the interior is a big step back. Other people that sat in the car around Rennsport reported the same. I was up for a 992 but now not sure at all. Seems to be a big step back.

No, since I coined the phrase, its 'The Clam'. Porsche must be counting on so much rear down force that 'Fear the Clam' becomes a rallying cry at tracks worldwide. Can't see any other reason they would put that awful design on that car. Whole car's a mess IMO, but I've said that in spades already in the other thread...

Busy exterior, cheap Panamera inspired interior, what's not to love. And I really hope they put those wheels back on the late 80's Chrysler they took them off.

Interesting - Just last week my Wife and I flew in to San Fran and headed to Napa for 5 days. The Rental car we had was all digital gauges which I do not like. I was telling my Wife that I love my GT3 because it still has the Analog gauges and not too much of the Techy stuff that all these new cars have.. I guess for a DD sedan( Panamera) -all the Techy stuff is fine but for my 911 I want all the analog stuff.- Shame- The 992 so far is not getting me excited. So happy I have my .2 to enjoy for many years.

Looks too much like a cayenne ; I don’t like it from the rear , IMO looks ugly !
The interior is terrible too

looking at the comments, I suppose i'm in the minority here. I think it looks like a nice evolution of the 991. people are always quick to bemoan change, but they almost always come around. I'm looking forward to seeing these on the road.

Just remember, after Chris Bangle destroyed BMW styling with possibly the worst designs in automotive history, they still sold every single one and sales went up. BMW didn't give a rodent's tuckus about their die hard customers, they were focused on entirely new customers. And it was successful even net of all the customers they lost. Porsche will sell everyone one of these 992s, regardless of what we think.

Did you feel the same way when the 996 was released, i.e., that it was a nice evolution of the 993?

I agree. But, the 992 maybe regarded the same way as the 996. This article goes on to talk about how the 996 was the best selling version. https://www.classicdriver.com/en/art...d-175000-sales

But, as we all know, if you want to buy a cheap used Porsche, it's the 996 that did not hold their value and, the earlier model years that are going up in value. One might expect if you buy a 992 that it may depreciate worse than the 991 and, that even if it is well received by direct customers, that it may not be by time of resale.

Dan (is glad you're playing nice with STG and visa versa in this thread)

I've spent some time with an undisguised prototype, inside and out, and I would not buy a 991 Carrera at this point. It is going to look old very, very soon.
Thanks for the info! Like all cars I need to see it in person, then digest it for a while. Originally I did not like the look of the 991.1 GT3, much preferring the 997 instead. Yeah. lol

I have to say I do like the way it looks, having seen it in person in Stuttgart last week it really has a nice look, but as with every new iteration, the car just keeps getting bigger and bigger. This one is looking much more like a Grand Touring and not a sports car but I guess that's what I said about the 991 as well. I love my .2RS and can't wait to get here on these shores but I find myself looking at some Certified 997.2s esp the GTS the car was still quite small but very modern and I think a great stable mate for the .2 or even the 992. I have no doubt the 992 will be a great car but the interior and exterior really are pushing away from sport cars and more into GT. I don't like the interior of the new Panamera so not sure I'm going to like the 992 but I know I'll end up buying one
