Then again a 991 Carrera is barely any larger than, say, a GT86 (a few mm wider and a bit longer but shorter wheelbase and lower). Or narrower and shorter (but taller) than for example a 570S. Sure it has outgrown old 911's and doesn't compare to modern small sports cars like the Miata, 4C, Exige - but it's still not a large car and at least it offers a roomy interior for its size.

Though the car has grown quite a bit, the picture with the red side by side comparison is quite misleading IMO not only because the 991 is significantly closer to the camera, but due the angle of the shot as well.

The 991 is big compared to a 993, yet the 911 has done a better job resisting bloat than just about any other legacy sports car.

Just look at the current M3. It has ballooned to ridiculous proportions.

They are the same distance from the camera. As measured from the FRONT!

From the front angle the 991 would appear smaller then.

It would take Peter Jackson, Ian McKellan, and a Shires worth of Hobbits to make the 991 appear smaller.

Maybe but nothing beats the Gandalf metaphor. "None shall pass!"

Compare that to the ballooning of the M3. It'll offer new perspective.

I used the E36 figuring it was the first 6 cylinder and started production around the same time as the 964 911.

E36 M3
Width: 67.3in
Height: 52.6in
Length: 174.5in
Weight: 3,219 lbs

F80 M3 (with 6-speed)
Width: 73.9in
Height: 56.1in
Length: 183.9in
Weight: 3,574 lbs

355lbs. Ouch. I was thinking of the E30 for my mental comparison.

Oh, add wheelbase as an additional stat. The 964-991 wheelbase stays pretty similar. The M3 goes from go-kart to full size car.
