You could look for a used tire with similar wear.

If you can afford a $250k sports car I think k you can afford $1k to replace two tries which you’d need to replace anyway at some point. I agree with AWD you need to replace both. If you are just driving around town the plug is probably fine but I would not do any real driving on it

The position of “if you can afford x car, you should be able to afford a tire” doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. If it is truly a safety issue, the argument should be, “if you value your family’s life, you should replace the tire.”

I can find the means to replace the tire, but I don’t track the car and other than a few quick pulls to 60-70, I drive it like any other vehicle.

The damage isn’t on the sidewall or shoulder so I am fine with it. I am a little surprised that some of you would replace both rear wheels with only 2k on them…but I guess that depends how much fun you have had over those 2k miles. 👍🏼

I realize the above is what I tell myself to justify my decision. But if I I don’t track it and drive it similar to any other DD, why would I treat the tire repair any differently…?

My car has two original tires and two replacement tires. One front has been replaced and one rear has been replaced. When I measure them, they are so close that it is hard to believe that this system in this Porsche would be able to detect it.

You showed them. Who cares about your differential anyways…

I don’t think I would ever a plug or patch a high-performance tire that goes on a car that can go 206 mph. I wouldn’t on mine. I bought the wheel and tire insurance. I’ve already used it twice. One more tire and it’s paid for itself.

With my last turbo S, I got a screw in the rear passenger side about 2 inches in. I ended up at Costco having them patch it. Had the car for 5 1/2 years. Never had a problem. The fastest I ever went was 165 miles an hour.

So you brought your $200,000 + Turbo S to Costco and had them remove your wheel from your car, remove the tire from the wheel, patch it and put everything back? That's even more brave than going 165 mph on a damaged tire. Wow.

Well....they didn't actually say they went 165+mph after the patch went on it. LOL

Haha I hear you. It was a Saturday and couldn't find ANYONE to even look at it.
So I came to my favorite forum....Rennlist and posted my issue (as I always do) and I was told to go to Costco by a rennlister. Gotta say no problems at all.

2 weeks after I got my 911 Turbo S 2 1/2 years ago, I also got a nail or screw in my tire. I took it to Radial Tire in Silver Spring MD and they told me that they could easily fix it with a patch. Oddly, they didn't charge me anything after waiting close to 2 hours to have this done. I was so happy and I don't track my car, drive it crazy fast, I use it as an errand vehicle and take it on day trips, over night trips and trips to meet up with friends, that's it. I wouldn't believe everything I read on the internet.

Wow. You have two things going on here I find difficult to comprehend.

1. you would bring a 250 K plus car to a basic tire
shop.
2. you would own a 250 K plus car meant to go in excess of 150 mph and not just pay $400 for a new tire.

You'll have to forgive me, but these are just things that no matter how hard you try to explain it I'll never understand. To each their own.

It's not a basic tire shop, they do exotic cars, all kinds of cars, and I've been bringing my cars of all kinds to them for 30+ years. They are known through our region for being the best. I've put 11k miles on that tire and it's been fine.
