Not the best news.......Supposed to replace tire when on the corner edge rails.......been told that many times.......better safe than sorry.....
It's on the cusp but he's probably ok. The patch should have a enough room to fit on the inside. He appears to have more than an inch from the sidewall.
Dropped it off at a new tire shop in town (Les Schwab) and they had no issues nor questioned repairing it. I was surprised as that seems to be a pretty standard tactic even when replacement isn’t needed.
Just picked it up and it the repair was “on the house.”
This turned out to be a pretty easy process and got me familiar with center locks. 👍🏼
I was at Porsche service a few weeks ago and I had a nail in my right rear tire. They told me I had to replace it which I did then they told me I should replace the left rear as well because the tire treads should be the same thickness. I only replaced the one tire.

I think if the tires are within 3/32 inch thickness tread depth difference, it should be OK. Apparently with AWD systems the drivetrain have a less than 5% tolerance between wheel diameters, otherwise undue stress is placed on the AWD system, because the tires are then rotating at different RPM's. It took me a while to understand (and accept) the difference between all wheel drive and 4 wheel drive systems. Never was an issue with my LX 470, but it was a constant issue with my Range Rover SS. Became extremely annoying (and expensive) to keep replacing pairs and sometimes all 4 because of uneven tread depths when 1 tire went bad. Some tire places will actually shave down the new tire to match the other ones tread depth, as that ends up being a cheaper option than buying all 2 (or 4).
I plugged a new tire with 500kms from my first brand new Porsche C2S Cab and drove a further 18,000kms (in hind sight, maybe 3,000kms more than I should have) until they looked like this.
I discovered they were done at the track when the car behaved obnoxiously... No wonder!!
