On the bright side, I had the torque wrench and all has gone smoothly so far. Now hopefully I can get a patch and call it a day. (Tires are new)

Looks to be an easy plug, ironically the head on that tells that it's been in there for a bit of time.

It's on the cusp but he's probably ok. The patch should have a enough room to fit on the inside. He appears to have more than an inch from the sidewall.

Dropped it off at a new tire shop in town (Les Schwab) and they had no issues nor questioned repairing it. I was surprised as that seems to be a pretty standard tactic even when replacement isn’t needed.

Just picked it up and it the repair was “on the house.”

This turned out to be a pretty easy process and got me familiar with center locks. 👍🏼

Sucks but I’d probably replace the tire.

I was at Porsche service a few weeks ago and I had a nail in my right rear tire. They told me I had to replace it which I did then they told me I should replace the left rear as well because the tire treads should be the same thickness. I only replaced the one tire.

I think if the tires are within 3/32 inch thickness tread depth difference, it should be OK. Apparently with AWD systems the drivetrain have a less than 5% tolerance between wheel diameters, otherwise undue stress is placed on the AWD system, because the tires are then rotating at different RPM's. It took me a while to understand (and accept) the difference between all wheel drive and 4 wheel drive systems. Never was an issue with my LX 470, but it was a constant issue with my Range Rover SS. Became extremely annoying (and expensive) to keep replacing pairs and sometimes all 4 because of uneven tread depths when 1 tire went bad. Some tire places will actually shave down the new tire to match the other ones tread depth, as that ends up being a cheaper option than buying all 2 (or 4).

Plug it from the inside and would have no hesitation driving with it.

I’ve driven 40k miles on a tire with 5 rope plugs that I did myself.

Lots of FUD, no actual data regarding crashes caused by blowouts subsequent to proper repairs. That one is a reasonable candidate for repair.

On a daily I would have no problem. But on a car that can easily do 150+ mph I’d just get a new tire.

I plugged a new tire with 500kms from my first brand new Porsche C2S Cab and drove a further 18,000kms (in hind sight, maybe 3,000kms more than I should have) until they looked like this.
I discovered they were done at the track when the car behaved obnoxiously... No wonder!!

I always feel terrible taking them up on those free tire repair jobs, because I know very well I won't be back there for new tires.

Sucks, I wish they'd let me pay them.
