I have has a guards red 997.1TT purchased new in 2006. Currently at 34k miles, AWE 700/750 kit(600 whp on Mustang dyno) 60-130 6.9s, Damptronics with DSC, Brembo floating rotors, B&M SSk. Recently got a 992 TTS that has a stage 2 tune from M Engineering (700whp on hub dyno). I have been driving the 992TTs for 6 months straight now and just fired up the 997 for the weekend and wanted to give some impressions.
Size - 992 much larger physically, doesn't translate to interior space somehow. 997 looks more compact, 992 more sleek and wide
Weight - both are similar weights, can't really say one feels lighter or sharper
Brakes - 992 PCCB are on a different level in both power and feedback
Power - in the current states of tune the 992 feels faster, like 10-15% faster but the 997 is no slouch
Trans - The PDK is ridiculously quick, but playing with the paddles doesn't eclipse rowing the gears yourself. I still prefer manual
Suspension - this is the greatest evolutional difference. The 992 suspension is ridiculously good. It has more grip on street tires than my 997 on Hoosiers. The rear wheel steering and PDCC active sways are amazing. At VIR stock to stock Car and Driver has the 992 TTS 23 seconds a lap faster than the 997.1. That's insane
Aesthetics - I can't say the 997 looks dated, but the 992 is definitely more modern and sleek
In the end we are lucky to be able to experience these cars

What does your 992 run 60-130?
Thanks for the comparison, tech has come a long way.

I actually have not had a chance to run a true 60-130 in the 992. I ran the 6.9 on a treated 1/8 mile track at John Hennesey's shop. I have done a couple of LC sprints with 2.57 0-60 at a DA of 1900

Should have more in it, what fuel you running?
What is the timing and boost at in the logs?

Those quick runs were in 82F and humid, Shell 93, full tank. Have not gotten into logging anything yet. I'll wait for cooler temps (it was 100-107 in Houston all summer so there was little point).

Thanks for sharing! I have passenger experience in a 992 Turbo S and then seat time in a 997.2 Turbo and 997.1 Turbo. Amazing how far PDK has come from 997.2 Turbo to 992 Turbo, that is I think what surprises me the most. But the acceleration from the 992 Turbo is unreal. Enjoy them and cool that you're the original owner of your 997 Turbo. Not many of those around. Total side question, but do you have pics back from when you collected your 997 Turbo? Seeing pics of Porsche dealers back when the 987/997 came out is so fascinating to me as I'm a 997 GT3 owner. So few pics exist, that I can find.

Nice comparo review. I've fallen in love with the 992 TTS. The car makes me feel awe every time I drive it.

Ran my 997.1 turbo manual at the 1/3 mile roll race at Pocono Race in October. The car has 68mm factory turbos, stage 2 softtronic off the self tune, BMC drop in filter and cat less exhaust. Start speed has to below 65.99mph to be a fair run.
Here are my runs from 4th gear with 1 shift to 5th gear:
- 62.57 to 149.96mph
- 57.93 - 148.91mph
- 60.99 - 149.60mph
My boy ran his 2023 turbo S with drop in Sprint sports filters, Do88 intake pipes and IPE titanium exhaust
Here are his runs:
- 59.16 to 150.4mph
- 65.76 to 150.26mph
- 62.5 to 148.87mph
The above shows that the 997 turbo is competitive by today's standards with minor work.

It's an off the shelf stage 2 tune from softronic. Call Scott at softronic - he has a wealth of knowledge and is eager to share.
I believe a stage 2 turbo s should gain 4 -7 mph over the course of the run with the additional 120 or so hp that stage 2 provides. I am sure that stage 2 turbo s will be at the events next year - will update the group if it happens.
