One thing peculiar that I have noticed, my wife has a 992 C4S with PSE, which is downright loud compared to my TTS. Almost to the point that you would think it had an aftermarket exhaust. Every time I drive it someone wants to race…

So definite variance from model to model.

Bigger turbos = less engine sound.

Interestingly, I think the 992 TTS sounds better than the Carrera S.

It's all personal taste.

Just surprised that with the EU’s strict db limits so much difference.

Outside of better sound and weight reduction is there any data around the benefits of an aftermarket exhaust like Kline, Akra, fabspeed, soul, etc? From what I understand the biggest constriction on the exhaust is 800 cell cats, and that the PSE actually result decently for flow compared to aftermarket. I was planning on just doing a 100 or 200 cell sport cats with the PSE that reason, but was wondering if there is concrete data.

Saved 30 lbs on JCR iconel cats and titanium centre. Constriction is def at the cats rather than the PSE.

200 cell cats is the way to go if you are happy with the PSE

My primary goal with the exhausts is to improve sound - the car is already beyond what my driving style needs as far as power goes, but the sound does not do justice to what the car is capable of. Like the tiny hands of a T-Rex 😄

I just signed up for a full Capristo valved exhaust system with 200 cell sport cats. Will report back when it’s installed.

That was my goal as well and I can report that catless downpipes have fully satisfied my need

The standard exhaust much like the 991 exhaust I had and modded on several 991's, unless you add valves you have no control of exhaust noise
Can you elaborate a bit more on “sounds like a V8” which I think of as having a very distinctive warble. Or are you talking more like an exotic Italian flat-plane crank V8. I’ve heard the Kline adds more of a GT3-like metallic rasp, which is the sound I’m after.

I just dont see how a flat six can sound like a V8…

Every engine configuration has its charms, we need to appreciate them for what they are.

I think the 992 iteration of the turbo sounds much better than the 991 version. I loved the speed of the 991 but felt detached due to the lack of participation from the exhaust system. Simply put the car felt sterile.
In the 992 TTS the exhaust notes with their pops and cracks (Sport Mode during downshifts and off throttle moments) sounds perfect. I almost thought the car had an aftermarket exhaust the first time I drove in sport mode. Debating to go with 200 cats for additional sound.

I liked the look of the more rectangle look of the standard exhaust over the sport exhaust until I actually saw it in person and heard my car. I struggled on what to get for a while. I don’t know about the programming at the dealer, however at $250 MRSP on my build, the price of the sports exhaust wasn’t a make or break option. I finally decided to get the sport exhaust and loved it.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The OEM cats are the biggest constriction indeed. They are 600 cell though. Stock 992 muffler / PSE is free flowing and hard to improve really.

Thanks. You reiterate the reason I ordered the PSE, but will upgrade the cats and then tune. 👍
