Default High Speed Wind Whistle Sound

Been railing on the 992 Turbo S the past few days, and right around 130 mph, a loud and noticeable wind whistle sound starts to occur...I know that suncoast makes a "wind buffeting" solution when driving with the windows down, but I don't think that's it...has anyone else experienced it?

This came up on the 992 forum.

Folding mirrors could be the culprit.

Another source has been the PPF on the mirrors. If the installer left a seam on the leading edge, it can make a whistling sound. You can try applying some tape to see if the sound changes.
As you mentioned, AWE and Blackmill work well with the windows down, but perhaps would change the aero enough to work with the windows up as well. I have both, AWE look better, Blackmill work better…

I am imagining (and shaking my head a little) the OP applying tape, and zipping the car along at 130+mph to test, then repeating during the discovery process, all the while testing at 130+mph. Stay safe out there!

I have the same issue and believe it is coming from the sunroof. Obviously I have not taken it to dealer as they would probably laugh at me as they can't duplicate it...

It's not clear bra on the mirrors causing the whistling sound...has to be a design issue of some sort or like ER911 said, something coming from the sunroof area. Sound is easy to duplicate, does it every time you near 130.

Same issue here...glad it isn't just my car lol...

And yes it's easy to duplicate...but not by the dealer as I doubt they would take customer cars for 130mph test drives...nor would I want them to personally!

Quite surprising (disappointing) though for a car with this pedigree that is designed to go 200mph+

I don't imagine you'll be able to do that either. The liability involved in letting an employee go for a ride at that speed doesn't make sense. The other issue is warranty won't pay for it either. You can't write up a warranty repair order saying "client states that at 130+mph....." It's a tough situation unfortunately that you may have to figure out on your own and then speak to the service manager about.

It should be under warranty lol. I seriously doubt all the german customers using theirs on the Autobahn would be happy with this. I am not making a big deal out of this cause I rarely find myself in this situation and most of the time, I wear a helmet. Still annoying.

Just get a louder exhaust, that's all you will hear, JUST KIDDING. I have sunroof and whole car clear wrapped, in normal (wife mode) the car has no interior whistling or other noises, it's pretty amazing compared to my 991's

I have a pair of Mirror Wind Diffusers set aside for when my car arrived in Nov. Got them from Suncoast. Can't confirm the benefit but worth the money to try it out.

I can say in testing for the 1/2 mile run I have had speeds WAY above 130 and zero whistling, I have the DB Carbon wind diffuers, huge difference with the windows open

At 150 MPH the noise goes away. The solution: Just go faster... (Just kidding)
