Default Best spec for resale on a 992 Turbo S

I have about a month and a half to change my options and colors for my 2022 Turbo S Coupe. My issue is that I don’t really know if I want to have $230-$240k tied up in one car. I sold my 2020 Carrera 4S for more than I paid for it due to this crazy market and now I’m beginning to think a 4S is all I really want/need. That one had to go because it did not have a few options I really wanted (front axle lift, full leather interior etc.). Anyway, if I decide after I get the Turbo S that it is not worth it to me, I want to be able to get out of it as quickly as possible without taking too much of a financial hit. So as far as colors and major options what do you all think are the safest bets.

GT Silver is probably the most conservative choice. However, if your concern is to minimize the hit you’ll take on resale by choosing options someone else wants, you shouldn’t be buying a $200k+ car.

Just ask your dealer to configure the car so it is most saleable by them in case you find that it is too much car for you.

Or just back out of the deal now. If you're having doubts, there are probably a dozen customers of the dealership who would love to have a configurable Turbo S build.

Really too broad of a question - what is highly desirable to one is worthless to another. Safe colors are usually silver, white, agate and maybe black. With the market today a TT/TTS are definitely holding value - but don't expect what is going on now to last forever. The bottom tends to fall out when you least expect it - and high end items tend to take the biggest hits. You will be able to sell it for sure - but for what margin is uncertain.

I wouldn’t go through with the deal.

This chip shortage isn’t going to last forever, and I swear everyone is buying a car to drive for a little bit, and then dumping it.

Aside from more power, why do you want the Turbo S?

Don't buy a car with the intent of selling it.

No offense, but it sounds like you’re in over your head on this one. If you aren’t comfortable with $230-240k, then listen to your gut.

That price point is in the range for most moderate builds. IMO, it’s not so much the options, but the total sticker that matters with resale/depreciation. $230-240k should be fine, but if you are worried about resale then that’s a sign to back out.

The car market is bat**** insane right now, so the normal advice is a bit YMMV. But I’d look for a deal on a used 911, or reconsider the 992 Carrera. The 991.2 generation TTS is outstanding. I daily mine. The gts is nice too. The entire 992 line is really good. Even the base model is a hefty upgrade from the 991 generation.

The car should make you happy, not make anxious about the finances. If it’s more “managing free cash flow” instead of “total cost” then you have options for leasing or financing to spread the payments out. Auto loan rates are very low.

personally, I’m not doing any more buying in 2021. A lot of window shopping for next year. If things are still crazy, well, I’ll pay the ante.

Agree with all the above. Having said that, I would avoid the expensive cosmetic options because they dont really add any resale value. Don’t do weird color combos. Your SA should be able to help you with that and advise you.

try and keep the car as close to The base 207 price as possible. The turbo s already has so many features standard on it that 90 percent of the options are probably not needed.

The chip shortage isnt going to lessen up for a long while now, a low msrp TTS coupe will be worth the money for a good year and a half at WORST. Stick to Grey, silver or black for ext and just keep the interior black, make sure to PPF the front of the car either way (this is very important to some people, and for 2500 ish its worth it all day long, and just make sure you do sport exhaust...you'll be fine, as long as you're actually comfortable with spending that 225 ish k.

Exactly... this ^^^^^^. This seems like a great idea and a great investment in fun as well. I can't imagine you losing much money at all, if any, if you do what's listed above. Just don't wreck it or get hit by anyone else.

Hard to predict. Many may not want a low option car.

Judging by Carfax reports, I think a large segment of buyers don’t really care about the options after second owner. People like to own the car for six months or less so they can add it to their signature list on forums or Instagram to say they’ve had XXXX car, drive it around a little, and flip to a different car.

Perhaps with an exotic, but I suspect a Turbo S buyer is more discerning given many of the options add functionality versus just glam. There are so many cars that are more flashy than a Turbo S for IG or forum signature lists. The flex with this car is small.

You can add $100k in carbon fiber on a Lambo.

The hell with it. I’ve optioned the car the way I wanted it. The market is so crazy right now, and will be for the foreseeable future that if I decide it’s not for me, someone will be more than happy to buy it at or near what I’m paying.
