From the 997 onward, the black guards look awkward.......even on a 993 it is a stretch.....go clear and change them every 3-5 years depending on wear.........simple to do...
I've got extra PPF in that area now, so my motivation was really esthetics rather than protection. I've yet to see a confirmed factory guard on a 992 Turbo. If the configurator rendering posted above is accurate, I suppose I can understand why more people don't opt for them. I may need to get creative here. Thanks all.
With the color I chose, the black stone guards don't stand out as on other brighter colors. I choose the black as something different, reminds me of vintage 911s, and on recent turbos I've had, the clear gets jacked pretty easy, so I thought I would try the black.
That looks way better to me than the others I've seen -- maybe the color of the car helps it? I'm guessing Porsche let form follow function and needed to cover more area where the hips flare out. I'm not sure it works as well on lighter cars like mine...
So... I downloaded "inkscape" and came up with this just playing around with ideas.... Thoughts?
I'm liking it. Now to find someone in the Silicon Valley area that can make and install it.... ?
Tom -
I would suggest contacting the shops that do vinyl wraps. They should be able to take care of you. As an idea, you could carry the stripe all the way to the stone guard and then have it flare out into a stone guard.
Just my 2 cents, but I prefer the first rendition. Seems more symmetrical and follows the door shape. But they both look great. Post pics when it's done.
Doubled up ppf so it looks like stock stone guard...
Best of both worlds.
Pat - so you put an additional PPF piece right over the top? I was thinking of removing he factory piece and replace with a much larger that runs the sills and covers much of the rear fender.

My film guy covered the entire car & went right over the OEM film piece.
