What Special GT Cars are Coming?
#151
I also know a lot of folks who are salty about not getting limited editions when they buy one GT car every 3 years and think they have a “good” relationship with their dealer. Let’s be clear. There are a lot of big fish in this pond. And they get to eat a lot more than the little fish. Owning a dealership has absolutely nothing to do with it.
There’s always another level. And the guy who thinks he “made it big time” with his $1M income is deeply ignorant. As Chris Rock would say, rich but not wealthy.

For a car like the S/T, most dealers got 1-2 cars. In the US, at least in the major markets, being a top 2 customer is 7 figures spend. Annually. For example, in NorCal, you’re competing with 9 figure tech money. In SoCal, 9 figure Hollywood star money. NY, 9 figure Wall St money.

At least in the US you have ADM so if you are willing to spend the ADM you can really specify your own numbered car - in europe the only way is to buy used if you are not a top end customer.
And even more in Europe they have not provided a VIP program which in my opinion was fair i.e invest 1m in a hybrid car 10 years ago to help porsche sell the car and you get rewards in the next 10 years - by spending more money
So if we are comparing it is more difficult in Europe to get a new numbered car.
And for those that are leaving Porsche to move to Ferrari, good luck - welcome to a new world where you have to compete with really f*ck you money and it is a different ball game.
Photo below are cars stored in Europe to be delivered to customers at their own choice of location when they want to drive them. Easily $200m of cars there and many owned by same guys. Even custom colour La Ferraris Apertas where the factory allowed only 4 colours - as I mentioned above it is a totally different ball game.

So I'm thinking then...you're at the apex if you're in Africa or Asia (except China) with these kind of cars.

Most of the above LaF are owned by corse clienti customers. The Ferrari mention was for the people that are fed up with Porsche dealers - in my opinion it is much harder at the Ferrari land. Different denogrpahic but also much lower cars production. For god’s sake it is extremely difficult to get the Purosangue (SUV) - imagine what it takes to get a special car.

The problem is that these super wealthy Ferrari guys are buying GT and numbered cars for no reason other than to duck with the peasants that actually want them.
They take all the PTS and CXX slots, put 6 miles on the car, and put them up for sale.
A 911 GT3 is probably the cheapest car with status where you can fully customize compared to like RR.
Those of you at the top of the Porsche ownership, it’s like you buying up all the GR Corolla and Civic Type R allocations.

Above photos are in Europe. I was just adding to the point that the halo cars will go to a demographic that is on a different level and it is very difficult for a dealership to refuse these customers the numbered cars.

To be content with what's already in your garage is priceless. Many will say most of the interesting cars have already been manufactured.

I often sit in my garage and look at my 992 Touring and think to myself can it really get any better than this?? And if so is the cost delta even worth it? It’s all really fluff when you think about it. I mean what a machine. I feel we are living in the age of peak automotive right now.

Oh that’s been done already. Magic carpet ride. Also did the ST spoiler settings and retrofitted comfort entry seats and seat memory. Along with resonix sound deadening. Waiting on Musicar to send me the stage 3 stereo. I can’t even dream of a more perfect car.

The doors and rear fender are giant empty chambers with little to no constrained damping. Think of the body panels as a drum. Your road noise is coming from this. The fender liners will reduce tire roar and the sound of pebbles hitting the liners. Weight added is 30-40 lbs if you do the full kit. You can adjust based on need.

I suppose to some maybe? That’s why we have choices. As for me, Porsche doesn’t make my dream car. I have to adjust what is available to fit my wants and needs. Me personally my car is for touring. I’m not chasing lap times nor am I a track rat. But I will load it up with luggage and take off with my wife all over the country.

While I don't want to take this thread too far OT, it's really about enjoying the noise of the engine vs. having it drowned out by unnecessary road noise. My 991.2 was fine on the highway and the 992 is totally great on B roads. On the rough highways around Seattle (carved up concrete from tire chains), however, there is a deafening roar that is 95% road noise. No harm in mitigating that unnecessary noise.
