992 GT3 vs 488
#16
i understand that. the exhaust did everything for me. had a 458 Spider (green also) and i loved the sound but it became slow and dated and soft very fast compared to the other cars. Id rather put an exhaust on a 488 than twin turbo a 458, add a more modern suspension, and add carplay. im still amazed at how many people love and prefer the 458.

To be honest, I drove a 488 and the car felt soul less to me so I had 0 desire to buy it. I also drove a 992 GT3 and got out of it thinking that this car is too good where it's just too easy to drive. I prefer a much more raw driving experience which is what I got from the GT4RS and 458 vs the GT3 + 488. 458 doesn't feel like a canyon/track car, its very wild and moves around a lot in the canyons where it really commands your attention. It makes you think you're at the limit but you aren't actually, it's just how the car feels compared to a Porsche GT/RS car where it feels like the limit is so high because the cars are that planted. The 458 engine is truly special, more special than the 992 GT3/4RS NA 9k but everything else is better in the Porsche(steering feel, interior, suspension, brakes, etc). The driving experience of the 458 is sublime though if you don't care about being the fastest in the canyons or a straight line, it really touches your soul when you drive it. I struggle to decide what I would sell first(4RS or 458) and what I would even upgrade too with my limited 2 parking spots.

I drove a 488 for 50 miles and it felt soul less to me. Fast as hell but it didn't get me excited at all. My pops has a 458, I've driven it over 500 miles in the last 10 years and it's incredible. I'd go 458 over 488 without question

It wouldn't surprise me that we hear these same sentiments regarding the GT3 in the near future whenever the torch lands with hybrid assist / PDK only. Remember the good ole days when you could get a mt / na GT3

I actually have both (the GT3 being a 6speed manual) and like others would say they are such different cars. i track both cars (4-5 times a year each). Fundamentally there are three things that I always think about with these two cars:
(A) The GT3 is much more biased to a track than a 488. This will show up many ways - the road noise being one, the more unforgiving ride being the other. On the same vein if you are trying to set up the car to do well in a track you will find a lot more options and data for the Gt3. For example, I have a cage and harness on my GT3 but it's difficult to do on a 488 since Ferrari does not include the harness anchors on US cars. On the flip side the Ferrari is very comfortable - I mean you could drive 3 hours in it and you would not feel nearly the fatigue you would feel with the GT3.
(B) The 488 is an awesome sounding turbo V8 vs a manic high revving NA engine. You will feel that all the time - The torque comes early and the whole things becomes frantic by 4-5K on the 488. It's not a statement on one is better than the other - just that it is very different.
(C) The entire visual impact thing is never far away. Even though my Gt3 is not subtle (racing yellow), its practically invisible next to the 488. Similarly, the cabin (which is a subjective thing) is richer in the 488 - the materials are a real step up. Colors are another part of I specced my 488 with a red and black interior whereas the Gt3 invariably will have a dark feel to it.
Overall though I love them both and luckily don't have to choose. if I had to get just one, I would probably choose the Gt3 simply because I love the involvement of the 6speed (and by God the box on the Gt3 is so amazing)

This is why my wheels have been turning.
Thanks, all, for the remarkably insightful comments. In a 992 GT3 sub that has some rather colorful threads, I appreciate everyone giving me so much helpful information to consider. Gives me hope for our RL community.

I have/had multiple gt cars including 3 and 3 rs
I was worried about Ferrari for a long time
2 years ago a 488 spider fell in my lap so I pulled the trigger
what a car
full of emotions
drive train is excellent
zero issues
only negative is the attention it gets

I’d take a Pista over a 3RS given the ADM. They are similar in price.
The Pista is my favorite F car by far.
GT3 is boring looking comparatively speaking. How important is design and styling to you?

Two totally different cars obviously but I had a 2017 488 that I owned for 2 years and loved how smooth and fast it was. Just hard to see out of and was always nervous about reliability (have an F8 now) but if I had to choose between that and a GT3 it would be the Porsche all day long. Better usability, drivability, reliability, and the sound.

I have a 992 GT3 but have driven both the 296 GTB and the McLaren Artura. I enjoyed driving both, but prefer the Ferrari’s timeless styling, better exhaust note and amazing view of the road framed by its wheel arches. The Ferrari also felt faster and more emotional than the McLaren albeit at $150K more comparatively equipped. Both cars are 3L V6 Twin Turbo Hybrids and are very digital as compared with the GT3 which feels less modern and more analog by comparison. At the end of the day, I’m keeping my GT3 6 Speed, I’m passing on the Artura and I’m on the waiting list for 296 GTS.
