992 GT3 vs 488

992 GT3 vs 488
Has anyone had extensive experience with both vehicles? I love my 6MT GT3, but I've never had an F car and the 488 seems to have rave reviews across the board. They also seem to be a "less favorable" F car slotted between the 458 and F8, which has softened their values relative to those models.
I had a lot of preconceived notions about Italian cars, but I'm finding myself more open minded to a certfied pre-owned 488 after learning about the included 7 year maintenance.
Is there anything else worth considering for a "lateral" move (250-300k range)?

the 488 is a major attention grabber. Like they all say, “an event to drive.” It feels way faster than the gt3 but sometimes I feel the 992 gt3 handles better.
they’re both different. 488 is wide and lower, sometimes feels big. Gt3 feels small and wraps around your body. Go cart like. The 488 is sharp and handles well too, I love the steering wheel and how it feels during cornering and low speeds, very taught and just right.
even with the big wing, it doesn’t get that much attention. My gt3 is manual so the drive experience is far different than the 488 with paddles. It’s a constant internal battle for me to decide which car to drive. The manual gt3 is so fun and the 488 is sheer bliss. Most of the time I want to fly under the radar so I grab the gt3.
hope this feedback helps.

Loved my ‘17 488 and should never have sold it. Have an F8 now that I ordered but it’s really not worth the price difference in my opinion. But, I’d love to have a manual GT3 as well! Have both if you can.

Ideally you want to own both, Ferrari and Porsche GT/RS cars are completely different driving experiences. I own a GT4RS + 458 currently but have driven a 992 GT3, 991.2 GT3RS, 488, F8 extensively as well from friends tossing me keys. What the GT3 is good at, the 488 won't be good at and vice versa.

To be honest, I drove a 488 and the car felt soul less to me so I had 0 desire to buy it. I also drove a 992 GT3 and got out of it thinking that this car is too good where it's just too easy to drive. I prefer a much more raw driving experience which is what I got from the GT4RS and 458 vs the GT3 + 488. 458 doesn't feel like a canyon/track car, its very wild and moves around a lot in the canyons where it really commands your attention. It makes you think you're at the limit but you aren't actually, it's just how the car feels compared to a Porsche GT/RS car where it feels like the limit is so high because the cars are that planted. The 458 engine is truly special, more special than the 992 GT3/4RS NA 9k but everything else is better in the Porsche(steering feel, interior, suspension, brakes, etc). The driving experience of the 458 is sublime though if you don't care about being the fastest in the canyons or a straight line, it really touches your soul when you drive it. I struggle to decide what I would sell first(4RS or 458) and what I would even upgrade too with my limited 2 parking spots.

I've owned and tracked both a 488 and a 991.2 GT3 RS (not a 992 GT car, however).
The Porsche will put down a better lap time, but the Ferrari is more fun.
Both cars were generally rock solid, although I had more issues with the RS than the 488, though all the problems were handled efficiently and expeditiously under warranty.
That's my take. Take it for what you will..

My 2 cents.
Sold my 488 to get into my touring. Have not regretted it one day. I did truly enjoy the 488 for a turbo engine it sounded fantastic as a piece of rolling eye candy everyone loved it. Bucket seats also excellent. My spec had a lot of carbon fiber very nice. Ground clearance was not terrible considering I wanted to drive it and not have to worry about being particular on my routes (but front lift mandatory in my opinion). Audio system not great especially considering the cost of the car.
I'm not one for all the attention sometimes it’s nice other times it was too much. I had a 458 previously and the 488 though had horrible ceramic brake noise. Embarrassing pulling up in town and sounding like a truck. Sticky buttons in the interior was the worst for me. Yes it can be fixed but it comes back for me at a 370k msrp unacceptable and I had a towel always present just for that reason.
For the type of driving I do I can utilize more of the gt3 (and it’s a manual so that extra engagement is great). 660hp I’m not touching the cars capabilities on any of my roads around save for some highway pulls but that isn’t quite the same as going quick on some backroads.
Would I own one again? Yes but as a 4th car. Not my primary weekender (and I’m not in a position to have 3 days alongside my daily but one can dream).
Good luck with your decision!

You have great taste. I will say I love driving both cars. And I'm first and mostly a Porsche guy more than anything. However. After I drive the Pista, the GT3 feels like something I should give my daughter as a first car. The Pista is tuned with straight pipe exhaust and it's a soul snatching demon that will make you reevaluate everything you think about cars. It's the only car I've ever owned that made me hold on for dear life. Give me a 992 TTS and I'll drive it at 180 while texting and picking my nose. At 120 in the Pista I feel like I'm wrangling in a rabid buffalo who wants to kill me. They just aren't the same when it comes to thrill and engagement. And the Pista has flappy paddles. Base 488 is 80% Pista. It'll feel as fast. But needs exhaust. Unfortunately the base 488 doesn't look like a pista, which in my humble opinion is without a doubt the most beautiful modern Ferrari. My only advice, Get a 488 spider. Top down is bliss and even top up you lower the back window for the symphony.....
