I am considering RaceChrono now, making sure about compatibility with Android and the requirments for external GPS (if needed) and access to OBDII data, ie. does it need a BT reader...

I use old iPhones for this purpose.

Although it could be done, I don't even want to go that route, I have a great phone (Pixel 7 Pro) and want to leverage its use and keep the hardware count down while doing stuff between sessions at the track.

You know, thats not a terrible idea to just get an old iphone to use for ppta. You get the PCM display screen and you can likely use the phone to capture video as well since its storage will be empty.
I lost my fast lap sessions yesterday due to ppta crashing after ending a session. No errors, no reason, just crashed and lost the session (and I'm wasn't even doing video)

So how much is this Vbox? Is it easy to install?

It's fairly involved to install. It takes about 3-4 hours, depending on how hidden you want the wiring to be. There are 2 HD cameras with cables, a CAN Bus interface cable, Power cable, Mic Cable, a display with cable, and a unit that is about the size of two tablets stacked. It's not complicated, it just takes time to route/hide cables. If you have a rollbar it's easy to mount, otherwise it takes some finagling things to get into the glovebox. More info/review on software here (old): https://rennlist.com/forums/data-acq...d2-review.html

I had my dealer install it when they put in my roll cage. They were able to tap the CAN bus in the rear and place the GPS antenna under the rear carpet. My box is mounted behind the passenger seat on the cage and the two cameras are wired under the roof liner.

Maybe I m missing something. My Porsche track app costs $0.00. It takes 5 min to install. It has zero weight (other than the phone). It seems to produce similar data or at least the data that I need to analyze and improve my driving.
What am I missing?

Corvette C8 is basically $0, readily available, and produces similar lap times.
