Default Porsche Track Precision App Version 4.1.6

Most people who have used this app have been frustrated with all the bugs in it including me. An updated version was released 2 weeks ago so I decided to take it to the track this weekend to check it out. I've used it successfully at a couple tracks in the past but it stopped saving the data and video for some reason so it became useless. I've also had constant connection problems like everyone else has experienced. So, I got in for my first session and I followed the procedure as written including reading the QR code etc. I couldn't get it to connect. For my second session, I plugged it in and it worked right away for some odd reason and worked flawlessly each session after that.

I spent a fair amount of time watching the data and noticed a few things. When PSM kicks in, it lights it up on the screen. You can see it at 1:45 in the below video. I started slipping a bit when I hit 1.4gs, but corrected it with steering and throttle. You can also see other interventions by watching that wheel rotation icon and the two car icons at the far right. I'm not sure what it is actually telling me. I think it lights up when ABS intervenes and also looks like whenever PSM or PTV kick in too. I was shocked at how often the intervention is occurring in my laps. Obviously I can feel when the ABS is kicking and also I can obviously feel when I start to slide a bit too.

Does anybody know what that far left icon is measuring? I have no idea.

Here is what the PCM screen looks like before and after I enter the track from the grid. I'm yuking it up a bit with the grid operators. They thought it was really cool.

Here is a short 11 sec video of me passing a car on point by (which totally screwed me up from setting up for the turn). Then there was a cone right in the middle of the track so I ended up going wide. All was ok though.

On the iphone, there is also an Analytics sections which shows the below data and you can scroll left and right with the data paired up to the video to do self analysis. I think it's pretty cool.

When it works it really does do a good job collecting data. I have found it useful. I was having connection issues using a new phone with the most updated version of IOS but am able to connect using my old phone and transferring the data was actually really easy. I havent been on track since 4/24, I’l have to check to see if this new update fixed my connection issue.

Some other weird things that I noticed. The rpm representation shows that the car is revving to 10k which isn't right. It's nowhere near that. It also shows very light brake pedal travel when I am actually standing on the brakes and ABS is kicking in. (e.g. turn 1 when I am rapidly slowing from 143 to 50 mph.)

It still needs some work.

I believe the 0-100 number in the left is measuring your "on the limit" score, if that is what you are referring to.

Yes, that was what I am referring to. What does "on the limit" score mean. I can infer it but wanted to make sure I have an understanding. Does it mean that at 100, I am at the car's design limit for stability or something like that?

From what I can tell, it judges you based on your past performance. So, if you are at 90%, it believes you are at 90% of what you should be capable of at that point. It doesn't use a pro driver reference lap. As you perform better, the score adjusts to the updated laps. At least that is what I can discern.

Other than it just started working, any thoughts on what fixed it? I can connect and see data during a session, but it won't save data or video.

That was happening to me also. When I reinstalled the app, it asked me if I wanted to give the program access to my photos. You have to say yes because that is where it saves the data.

I gave up and got a catalyst. I use both. The app for telemetry and garmin for video.

Too bad that Porsche hasn't update it for Android... still at 4.0.8

So now I am considering Racechrono!

I use the app for in car lap info and vbox for detailed analysis.

I tried the catalyst, but it wasn’t all that great for me.
