Default GT3 oil tank TSB??

My friend just took his early build GT3T in for a one year service and dealer told him there was an oil tank recall (due to known issues with plug stripping threads) and replacement requires engine out and there is currently a backorder on parts.
Anyone else heard that yet?

<EDITED> noting that there is not a recall - it was a reference to the existing TSB

It's a 22 and was a really early allocation.
I'll hear more about this tomorrow.

By oil plan, do you mean oil tank where the insert might spin within the housing or is this a different issue?

This has been a known issue with early builds for many months (TSB on how to prevent this on the DIY oil change thread).

But a recall would be big news. It’s possible that your friend’s tank failed and they’re replacing under warranty and TSB. If there’s a recall, there should be a VIN# list.

BTW, GT3’s don’t have oil pans. They have external oil tanks (real dry sump) and the 992 tank is made of carbon fiber and the brass threaded inserts can come loose.

@GrantG thanks for that. I have been following that other thread and it's why I was wondering...
I just heard a little more and it sounds like he was told IF it strips THEN the "pan" has to be replaced.

Which is probably not new news.

I’m just a few miles away from dealer. I feel as if I should break mine loose before I go…

Ok, that makes sense - thanks. If you follow the instructions I just posted above, hopefully this will prevent the need for that…

This would be awesome news! Especially since I plan to do all my own maintenance. I believe it requires the engine to be pulled though which is a little nerve racking. Mine was built in September 2021 and I recall that the cars built from Jan 2022 on had the redesigned oil pan/tank.

If you have never had an oil change (and have an early car) and they don't ask you to leave the car overnight, then you know they're not following the directions at the dealership (loosen when cold - use new drain plug ending with "B")...

If you do your own oil changes, it's much easier to continue to break plug loose while cold (even after using the new style drain plug). But if it breaks, I guess it's better if it happens at dealer. But also seems more likely to break if you go to dealer...

Loosening at home is a good idea. But if you go to all that trouble, may as well finish the job. Maybe you want the 1 free change? If so, make sure they use the new plug.

Am I reading this right. For vehicles dated before 1/27/22?
