Everyone generally recognises a supercar when they see it, why?
(1) Art
(2) Design
(3) Materials
(4) Construction
(5) Engineering
(6) Performance
(7) Production numbers
The R35 isn't a super car in the same way a GT3 isn't - they are simply well engineered performance cars.

Mooty said this earlier, but you probably didn’t/couldn’t understand….

If you have to think about it and if you use the list you made, you could argue that some cars are supercars that don't look like it, because they are stand outs in several of your 7 categories even if they don't score highly on all 7. And you'd be right.

The reason I fulminated on and generated the "super car" attributes list (posted earlier) was because the question was raised and I had to sit down and think about it. The other point is, I don't think anyone goes out to buy a "super car". You go out and buy what you like because you can afford it and it lights your candle.

Porsche don't really make supercars - or rather they rarely make them e.g. Carrera GT and 918.
What defines a super car
(1) Mostly carbon fibre monocoque
(2) 8 - 12 cylinders, 6 or more with hybrid propulsion system
(3) use of structural composites
(4) often highly sophisticated suspension geometry
(5) distinctive design elements
(6) price
(7) ability to customise
(8) numbers produced
(9) HP and torque
Porsche GT cars are fantastic products but they are still a mainstream product.
In my subjective view the only good looking car Porsche currently make is the 982 Spyder and the Spyder RS will be an instance classic.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Personally, I would take the Senna, 765LT, 720S, 600LT before most Porsche sports cars - they offer very unique experiences both in terms of performance and design. Again, and from a personal perspective I would take a STO or 296 GTB over any current Porsche.

I’ve been getting some outright silly offers for my touring lately. I’ve far from having decided to sell, but I have been looking at - if I did - what I would go into.
I find supercars being purposely ostentatious. That’s how I would define a supercar. That appeals to some, not to me.
And that’s another reason I love the touring so much.
The only car I’d exit the touring for is an RUF SCR. Surprisingly, er indoors is supportive, because she doesn’t want to see any “supercar” in the driveway.

Outside of true p die hard or a pretty young crowd wanting the match box / race-car-on-street look, idk if RS have ever really been universally PRETTY cars. There are some exceptions but it has usually been a bit of a garish design. Throw me in the pile that likes them but I also recognize it's a boy racer look: decals, wings, colors, etc. not exactly a "classy" look. Granted this one pushed even farther but I haven't ever bought an RS because beautiful car (again to anyone other than Porsche die hard). Step out of the Porsche bubble for a second and think of other cars with decals and wings

The holy trinity are 3 exceptional works from each of the top manufacturers.
- I would own a 918 for reliability and ease of use.
- P1 because code brown is real after every scare.
- LaF because it's one of the prettiest from Modena, more so than Enzo.

This is fun because this thread is about art. The Senna is an engineering art piece as is the new GT3 RS- they are form follows function and beautiful for that reason - the beauty is in the engineering but I would argue not the design. I think they are both kind of tortured as design. There are some designs that are just beautiful and timeless - the proportions are just so right - in the Porsche world for me those cars are '64 911, 964 (cup - rubystone), 356 speedster, 908, 1976 911 turbo (light yellow), 959 (guards red), 997 GT2, Carrera GT, 718 Spyder, 991.1 GT3 (YEESSS! - I have one!) - now I don't care if these are supercars or even the best cars but they are the best designs. Some supercars look like trash but can make a fast lap, and some beautiful designs are bad cars. Porsche over the years has made many cars that do both really well. The new GT3 RS is probably the best road-legal car Porsche has ever made in terms of lap time I'm sure it puts many "supercars" to shame. It will be collectible for that reason, and many will see it as beautiful for that reason. But it's not really a good looking car is it. If I felt I could afford an RS - any of them, I would buy one, and they all meet my definition of supercar - the best design is the 997.2 RS and that's why they are unobtanium - sort of perfect in so many ways. The 991 / 992 RS models are better aero / engineering but worse design than the GT3 non-RS models.
PS - If my 991 had a wing styled like the 997.1 GT3 the design would be perfect - yes the wings get more effective the bigger they are but they look worse - so I probably should replace the 991.1 GT3 with the 911 R, but then I like a wing.
