Ugly Supercars
#31
If my friend married a girl that made Roseanne Barr (on her best days) look like a supermodel, I would definitely have to rethink our friendship.

The new RS looks wicked. I loved the 991.1RS, the .2 not so much. The 992 definitely looks like a pure track toy, but it's a good looking car.
And I agree with the earlier poster about the P1. One of the best looking supercars ever made, if not the best.

I have to say I'm not all that crazy abut how the new GT3RS looks. But for what it's intended purpose is I don't think that matters much.
I think most McLarens are beautiful, especially the P1. I think the 600LT and 765LT are also gorgeous, and the Artura is even better than the Sport series IMO.
My first reaction to the Senna was it was ugly, but seeing it in person it is much better. Still not what I would call beautiful, but really nice.
I got to see the Aston Martin Valhalla in the flesh in Monterey last weekend. It's absolutely stunning.

I hope lots of people don’t like the looks of the 992GT3RS, don’t think it’s a supercar, can’t live without a frunk and cancel their orders - it may give me some hope in getting an allocation

And that’s also the problem.
To most people, a 20 yo Maserati GT is a supercar, while a 2022 Porsche GT3 is just another Porsche.
The term Supercar doesn’t mean anything unless you are a car sheeple. Unfortunately, our society is filled with car sheeple trying to impress other car sheeple.

now what were you saying again?? Couldn't hear you over the best pops crackles and screams of the Masi GT's V8...especially 2009S with the F1

Agree on the 600LT, stunning car as is the 720S and the P1 is simply a no brainer. Like yourself, I have a foot in each camp. Super cars are where art meets design and engineering.
Where as Porsche - mainly engineering, some design and no art.

Supercar doesn't mean some arbitrary construction type (carbon fiber, etc.).
Supercar means it feels "super" when you drive it, so it has to be over some (also arbitrary) performance threshold or combination of performance (quarter mile, lap time, roadholding) for a particular day and age.
I'd go further to say that there should be some innovative engineering effort behind the car. But again that doesn't mean mid engine bespoke carbon fiber chassis because there are other ways to be innovative in the engineering. Otherwise we just think supercars are cars that we think look like supercars, which doesn't make sense, isn't very useful, and in my opinion is a bit boring.
A Nissan GTR (R35) was certainly a supercar when it came out.

(7) Production numbers
The R35 isn't a super car in the same way a GT3 isn't - they are simply well engineered performance cars.
