Default GT3 Daily Driver

With almost 1500 miles in 6 weeks, I would say the GT3 is a great daily driver. Mine is a Touring and I plan to be the highest mileage GT3 Touring on the planet.

So "daily driver" means a lot of things to a lot of people. I can say that the GT3, in my daily driving, works just fine. I split time between places (see above) and in the mountains, I can say that nothing I have owned or driven compares to the 992 GT3. The double wishbone absolutely is a game changer for curves compared to earlier iterations of the GT3 and other 911's. I have driven and owned a lot of cars and the 992 GT3 is the best driving car yet for me. My "daily" in the mountains is on open roads, almost no cars and even when I go to maybe the hardware store, very little traffic. It's perfect, although strapping lumber on the roof can be a pain. (Ok, I have not done that.....yet)
In a busy city like Charleston, SC where I spend half the year, it can get annoying passing the clutch in over and over in traffic but so what. It's a sports car. That happens. The performance is, of course, lost when in traffic but that happens in any car.
Yes, I put in the sofas. I very rarely track and the little bit of weight is fine. You will never use all the power the car has. Never. Ok, the guy that did the Ring in like 6:46 or something, he used all the power. But mortals do not. The sofas are very comfortable. Yes, the suspension is stiff even in "normal" mode. So what? How quickly we forget what it was like driving a car from the 60's. (OK, some Rennlisters will not know that feeling, but you get me point)
I laugh at the videos posted in this forum and all over that talk about the interior noise and the noise of the wheel wells, etc etc. IT'S A SPORTS CAR. That never bothered me. I test drove a 356B the other day and you have a loud interior and you hear every pebble bouncing around the wheels. I have never had an issue with that. I could drive the 356B as a daily. It is part of the experience. . The reviewers that complain about the GT3 noise crack me up. Sure, you CAN get a sports car that is not as loud. To each his/her own. I will still contend that the GT3 is a great daily driver. I posted photos of it after some enthusiastic gravel road driving a few weeks ago. I got criticized for taking it off-road. It's a car, not a holy relic. Go out and drive.
I may even set up a website to see who in the world can put the most miles on theirs.

Hello OP. I plan to do the same when mine arrives. Is there a specific damping setting that the dealer needs to do on PDI for maximum daily driving comfort? I have the Sofas spec'd as well. My GT3T will never see a track unless parked for a car show. The 4RS will take that slot. Appreciate any input from the collective.

One of the best daily drivers on the planet for 2 people or less, particularly with sofas.

Good question. Around town means different things. I split time between Charleton, SC and Flat Rock, NC so around town in Charleston is awful in any car. Half of the northeast population now resides in Charleston so going anywhere, in any car is not pleasant. All the roads that used to be the fun driving roads are all now clogged with cars and trucks and a seemingly endless supply of debris so rock chips are part of everyday life. In Flat Rock, which is in the mountains, where roads are void of cars and you have inclines, declines, hairpins and never ending curves is spectacular. It is a driver's paradise.
Overall, the Spyder is spectacular in the mountains because the gearing is very long so it gives reprieve to your left leg pushing a clutch. The top down is exhilarating in the cool mountain air. Worthy of videos. In a congested place like Charleston you leave it in the garage. It gets incredibly hot so you fry with the top down and alcantara seats soak you with sweat. No FAL on the Spyder also means you have to really think about using daily depending on where you go like the shopping center that has a steeper entrance/exit.

I did about 180 miles yesterday in my 992 touring. 90 both ways and when I got out of the car it’s the first time I didn’t have to stretch my back. In my .2 with buckets I would have had to do a nice stretch upon exiting the vehicle. Don’t get me wrong I love the buckets and I think they look better but having 18 ways is a nice change as they are some comfy seats.

as far as the loudness, my only complaint of the car is it’s not loud enough! Having full Dundon in my .2 I feel this car is way to quiet for my liking. First mode of biz is changing the exhaust.

daily driver is a broad term. what is your drive? i plan on driving my gt3t manual as often as possible but i dont want to Commute in it. Let me explain. I work west coast market hours ands and counter traffic so i drive the gt3t to work. I would NOT daily drive if i sat in bummer to bummer traffic in a gt3t.

I find the car w sofa very easy to live with. yes it is firm but i like it. No u cant check your email and drink coffee while driving but that is not what i would do when driving the best street race car in the world. I have a tesla/taycan for commuting.

Couldn't agree more on the seats and ride/exhaust. Stiff rides, loud intake, NEVER bother me. But...I had the buckets in my GT3RS I daily drove like you and after awhile they just got really old. I am addicted to racecars so I wouldn't say they stopped me from enjoying the car, but they pretty much suck after 15-20 minutes and I do not understand why anyone would get them in a GT3 touring. Love the look of the LWB as well, no argument there. The point of a touring is you actually drive the thing for extended periods. I track as well and I couldn't Give a FKKK about having the buckets. If you need those as an excuse on lap times or have a problem tracking without them, you're suspect. Most likely Cars and coffee attendee that needs to "look like they go to the track" and is making an empty argument with no basis

Also, 2-way Sofas actually weigh about the same btw as they don't have the heavier duty motor the LWB have for going up and down. Sofas will be my vote to Porsche when I order a GT3 in a couple years after enjoying this GT4 (with sofas) I have coming in next month (finally) for awhile. I went GT4 as I had to get the last N/A 718 GT car manual (WOW, they're so fun). But, no doubt the next one will be another GT3, not RS this time tho. Can't decide if wing or not. but sofas are 100% and I will DD it 100%
