Chrono package with Lap Trigger
Has anyone tried this out on the track.
I was going to buy a new lap timer but my Sales Rep thought I would be happy with this new technology.

Suggest search in the 991 GT3 forum as there has been discussion there. I know early on there were some issues with it. Not sure the latest. I've been using AIM Solo/ Smarty cam for years, but thinking of moving to Racelogic VBox. Peter Krause (Procoach here on RL) is a good resource.

My only hesitation with VBOX is a new learning curve. I'm far from expert with AIM but I can do some basic analysis. Now may be the time to move since if I stay with AIM I'd need to learn RS3 analysis.

Yep - I just like the completeness of the VBOX software. I find the AIM software a little clunky.

VBOX is pretty easy to use. The installation is a bit of a pain, but once running it's very easy to use - one SD card to mess with, and with the right laptop and SD reader it is very fast to transfer the data. The killer feature is the ability to compare multiple laps in video and data simultaneously.

Well, depends what is critical for you.
Personally, I find that video and ECU data, together with multiple laps side by side, help me learn faster. When I go to a new track, this setup is instrumental is helping me ramp up very quickly. Typically within a day I am about 99% of the way to a competitive lap time.
The HD2 system is actually not even an in-car lap timer, you have to additionally buy an in-car lap timer, or a slave OLED display, to go with the system. Mostly I use these tools to assist my learning offline, especially because on-track traffic really distracts you when you are trying to use in-car timing feedback to learn. Everyone who I have met or worked with who is very serious about learning ends up with a VBOX Video system after going through the rounds of AIM -> Garmin.
If you just want an in-car lap timer, then the VBOX lap timer products are very accurate, probably the most accurate out there given Racelogic's pedigree with position systems. The other side of their business is scientific instrumentation for automotive testing, really high end stuff.
And yes it will capture position data that you can load into a tool for analysis. But there are other more sophisticated in-car instruction tools (albeit less accurate) like the Garmin system. The Garmin system is useless offline however - so everything is a tradeoff. You gotta figure out how you want to learn.
ProCoach is the guy you want to talk to for advice though....

Like everything in this sport/hobby it's a slippery slope! For just a stand alone lap timer, the AIM Solo is good. But there is the next step up to the Solo DL so you can get a CAN connection to the car and get much more data. but then you also need the smarty cam to have video. Vbox is more but many feel it's easier to use. There is also the Apex pro and the recent Garmin tool. Consider dropping Procoach (peter) a PM and he can likely help take you through the options for what your objectives are. He's helped me

I wrote this review of the HD2 may years ago. Pretty much the statements about AIM are the same, even after 5 years.
