4.2 Engine hopes dead?
I currently have a 991.1 GT3 and was praying to the car god's for an allocation on a 992.2 and a 4.2. The latest issue of Panorama, the 992 GT3 article stated they are about at the limit of extracting power from the 4.0 (which we all know) and the only way was to bump displacement to a 4.2 but that's not really an option in making it a world car due to emissions standards. So I guess anybody waiting and wishing for a 4.2 like me, unless we hear otherwise, are most likely hosed. Obviously the pattern has been the .2 cars getting the displacement bump and since the 4.2 already exists it seemed like an obvious move until I read that.
Not sure if anybody has heard otherwise. Just wanted to share what I read and see if anyone else caught that in the latest issue.

If you want a 4.2 or even bigger, ask Raby to build you one. Done. Easy button. Next question.

Built engine vs OEM with warranty is a giant difference. I've been down that road more than once and I don't care to have another project.

"To promote energy-efficient vehicles, the consumption tax is proportional with the engine displacement of the vehicle, from 0% for battery electric vehicles up to 40% for high-emission vehicles with an engine displacement of more than 4.0 liters."
I don't think it is coincidence that "4.0" is the magic number for many manufacturers currently.

4.2 is about as likely as backseats in a Touring.

Not sure how big of a market China is for Porsche, but it is unlikely...IMO...displacement increases:

Surprise as it might be to some of you, China is not relevant to this discussion. Though China is now as big a Porsche market as the US, the Chinese market is different in that most are poseur buyers, who just want something more exclusive than a Mercedes. China buys a disproportionate portion of SUVs and very few GT cars.
The Chinese buy so few GT cars , that their tax structure won’t affect Porsche making a 4.2L engine.
I still believe the 992.1 RS and the 992.2 GT3 will get a 4.2 L NA engine.

You must have missed the opening remarks to my comment: "Not sure how big of a market China is for Porsche"
Regardless, the tariff is real...maybe a small portion of production, but real nonetheless.
Whereas, your comment regarding "poseur" buyers is clearly subjective.

And I don’t see data for GT cars in China, which is far less than the US.
and since that was the entire point of this discussion, a 4.2L NA engine in a future GT car, please show me data suggesting the Chinese purchase large numbers of GT cars……..because they don’t.
So Porsche won’t skip out on including a 4.2L NA engine in one or more of the 992 GT cars just because of China.

China has always purchased 718 type cars. They consider the 911 to be more feminine. nice that they are finally buying more 911s but the % of 911s sold per Porsche cars sold is still far lower than the US
And I don’t see data for GT cars in China, which is far less as a % per Porsche sold than in US.

Next you are going to tell me Ferrari is going to continue to make a NA V12...you know because the trend for engine size is definitely on the rise.
Really stinks I just bought my F12 since they will probably continue just churning out 12's & 8's ... oh wait... Ferrari's lovely 296 GTB brings the V6-hybrid era to Maranello - Roadshow (cnet.com)
