I'm soon going to be ordering a 911 cab, base. I am getting Sport Chrono, but I am leaning against getting Sport Exhaust.
My questions:
- Does Sport Chromo change or improve the exhaust note at all?
- Does the engine sound noticeably better or "throatier" in Sport Mode or Sport Plus? (In my M4 it makes a significant difference in sound from "efficient" to Sport").
SC will change the exhaust note inside the car as it will allow the symposer to change the sound. Without PSE, it will not change the note outside the car.
Personally, there are many aftermarket tuned by-pass exhausts that are great and half the price of the PSE.
I have the AWE on my base C2 and love it.
SC will change the sound of the engine in the interior, not the sound of the exhaust on the outside. I have SE on my C4S and never use it. I'm glad I can set my individual setting for Sport w/o the SE. If it were not bundled in with the Power Kit, I would never have got it, esp for the crazy price.
The Sport Chrono introduces overrun pops and crackles in Sport Mode on the 991.2 (but not in Sport Plus as does the 991.1). So there is a change in external exhaust sound with Sport Chrono when used in Sport mode, especially if you have PSE... just not under acceleration. The pop/crackle is notably suppressed with no PSE or without PSE turned on.
You also don't get rev matching if you are getting a manual without Sport Chrono, so that has some effect on exhaust sounds as well.

I don't think there are any aftermarket alternatives for a valved exhaust at PSE cost - much less half.
There are a few non valved exhausts for similar money as PSE.
If you want to have a "loud button" then it is cheapest to get PSE out of the box unless you already know you are going aftermarket.
