Default Service intervals on display

I've decided to go with my local guy for oil and filter service on my CPO '14 because I'm about 100 miles away from my nearest dealer. My question concerns the service intervals that show up in the instrument cluster display. Are these automatically updated when you have service done like oil and filter changes or does something have to be reset manually? If it has to be done manually is there any kind of special tool that's required that only a dealer has?

Thanks, Pete

Pete, the service reminder must be reset deliberately, either with the dealer PIWIS diagnostic computer or at home (or independent shop) with aftermarket computer devices that connect to the OBD socket.

Thanks! That's what I was afraid of. My guy may have the equipment to reset it I hope.

FYI I just reset mine with a device I bought on Amazon for $160. If you're planning on more DIY service, I would recommend getting such a thing. I got it mainly for the data stream features, but as a side bonus I can reset maintenance and oil service warnings.

That worked for resetting the service messages on my Boxster--have not tried it yet on my 991.2.

Thanks for the response. Is your car a 991.2 or a 991.1? Does anyone know if this device works with a 991.2?

Didn't realize things like this were available at this price. Thanks for the info!

It's not listed, so probably not yet.

Hey gang, at $160 give or take, both Durametric and iCarsoft PorII are about the same dough. The Durametric requires a laptop, I believe, while the other is standalone, so immensely better because it can be in the car at all times. But how about things that can be checked? The PorII seems to have a long list of things that it does, but it's unclear how many can do on a 991/981. I tried to buy a cheaper CresetterII, to clear service reminders, but was unsuccessful twice, and don't want to try anymore (apparently they were discontinued). Now that I'll have to spend more, want to buy the better one overall. Thanks.
