Default GPS: Navi with Dash cam with Radar detector

I had a ThinkWare 770f installed and already had a Escort 9500ix. A few days after installing the dash cam, I began to have issues with the navigation system in my car. The GPS signal in the navigation system began to lose signal and my car did not know where it was and could not pinpoint its location. I took it to the dealer today and they said the signal for the car's GPS dropped to zero with the dash cam on and back to normal with it unplugged.

Anyone else have this problem with a GPS enabled dash cam and/or GPS radar detector installed?

See the thread here: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9882...ere-w-gps.html

FYI, just entering "GPS dashcam" in the "Search this forum" pop-up on the upper right of the threads list found this immediately,

Edit: But it doesn't really seem to answer it. I thought that was a longer thread. There is another here that addresses moving the dash cam wire to fix this. I'll see if I can find that too.

And an edit to my edit above It seems in that other thread moving the wire didn't resolve it and there was no further followup. I'd guess you need to move the dash cam away from the mirror area. Mine is mounted below the mirror area and doesn't interfere, but I have a different make of camera.

Maybe try wrapping some shielding tape around the dashcam cable that needs to be run along the car's GPS antenna location. Did you not have GPS issues with the wiring for the radar detector since you mentioned that the car was already wired for that?

I did not have any issues with the radar detector alone. The issues only began after the installation of the DashCam. I guess I will turn off the GPS to the DASH CAM for now until I figure out a workaround. I will keep searching through this forum for an answer.

Can you try wrapping the wires with aluminum foil to see if it does anything?

I think you'll find that it is not the GPS on the dash cam causing the problem, but the dash cam or its wiring. That's worth a try though. My dash cam and radar detector both have GPS and are near the mirror with no perceived interference.

BTW, there is a screen on the Nav system, under Options somewhere, that reports the number of satellites being tracked. You can look at that to see what the effect of your experiments are without having to wait to see where the position on the map ends up. You'll generally want 5 or more satellites for a good position report, 4 at a minimum.

Get some Faraday - High-Shielding tape and put a layer under the Porsche GPS receiver unit in the mirror housing and wrap some of the tape around the cable of the dashcam.
Did the trick for me, my wifi dashcam in the mirror housing does not disturb the GPS reception anymore.
