Mini Panic moment about Centrlock wheels

They look cool, but I'd much rather have 5 lug wheels. There was a recent poll on the GT3/RS thread and 75% of GT3/RS owners would choose 5 lug wheels, if we had the choice.
Much easier to swap tires myself that way for the track and winter/summer tires, and also much less concern about flat tires and shops that can't fix them with CL wheels.

I wouldn't of bought a GTS without them.

CL's have some advantages on the track. First, you don't have someone trying torque your wheels at Tech Inspection and hitting your car with a torque wrench. Second, no need to torque each session or day. Just inspect the lock and ascertain that it is fully extended before the first session and that's it for the weekend.
The tire changing process is a different procedure but once the car is jacked up four wheels can be removed and replaced in 15 minutes.

I've flirted with the idea of a GTS or 4 GTS. As opposed to others, I don't like the look, nor do I like the complexity that comes with it (harder to find aftermarket wheels, fewer options for service). I would lean pretty hard against getting a car with them. In other trims (e.g. late model Turbo's, GT cars), lots of folks avoid them. I would never order them. But to each his own.

I went through exactly the same uncertainty when ordering mine as I really liked the 20” RS Spyder wheels but they wouldn’t fit them at the factory. Also, I was worried about the practicality of CLs.
After a chat with the OPC, who went through the logic of CLs or not, I specced them in the end and have been very pleased with the result. They suit the character of the car and are a part of the whole GTS thing: yes, you can build a GTS clone using a Carrera S and the options list but you end up with something that cost you more but is no more valuable and/or desirable. Fine if that’s not a problem but also the GTS is a carefully crafted machine that ends up being greater than the sum of its parts - mess with those parts too much and you run the risk of diluting the essence of the vehicle, IMHO.
With modern Kevlar/steel banded tyres and a can of sealant, when was the last time you had to change a tyre by the side of the road? 911s don’t have a spare anyway, so if re-inflation doesn’t work it’s recovery time, 5-lug and CL both. Living/driving in western Europe, I'm covered by 24/7 rescue and tyre specialists are never far away.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing to get btw, or even that I'm a fan (honestly Id like the 5 lugs sometimes so I could put spacers out and push those wheels out a bit more)...just the economics of it down the road.

I assume it's because the CL are a PITA to deal with for cars that frequently need new tires and new brake pads due to track use. This why the overwhelming majority of GT3 and RS owners prefer 5 lug hubs, because we track our cars.
If you just use your 911 variant for street driving, then CL aren't that much of an inconvenience.
