Switching out question
Maybe not the right forum, but here goes:
I have a lease on a 991.2 C4 about 8 months old. I realize now I simply won't be driving this thing in winter (and, therefore, did not need the 4) and my kids are clamoring for a rag top. I'm perfectly contented paying what I pay for it, but am thinking seriously about a 2017 Boxster (or Boxster s), which I think will suit our needs better. I'm way under miles.
Question is, is my dealer likely to just laugh at me - or are people successful in working something out with their dealer to get what they need.
Wishy washy question, I know . . . But you get my drift.

Well, you will take a bath trying to get out of an 8 month old lease. You are probably about $20-30K upside down on depreciation. Not sure why you don't drive it in the winter. Spring for some snow tires and go, go, go. No sense in making those lease payments to have it sit in the garage. As for the Boxster, they are fun cars no doubt. But you mention kids plural. Which means you will only be able to meet their convertible desires one at a time in your two seater Boxster. You might want to ride out your lease. Porsche has a pull forward program at 2.5 years if you trade in for a new one. At that time you can get a 911 Cabriolet. Seats for 3 passengers. With snow tires for sure.

Fair points, which is what I expected. Essentially I'd be willing to take the bath to the extent that I'd be paying for a 2017 Boxster "s" what I currently pay for my 991.2 C4. But no additional $$$ beyond that. But even that seems likely a bridge too far.
Regarding my kids, really just the one to worry about. She's 12. Her brother is 17. Neither one can fit in the tiny back dimples of the 911 anyway. Both want the convertible, but in practice the 17 year old is off doing his own thing and could care less.

Dealer will be happy to get a low mileage 991.2 in inventory but try to screw you on trade.
The Boxster is awesome. The 991 is the best convertible 911 ever by a very, very YUUUGE margin. (I absolutely love mine)
Reasons for 911 over the Boxster are NARP syndrome and need or "backseats." The Boxster is a very fun car to drive - arguably more fun than the 911. It is in fact not as fast (straight line or turns) as an equivalent generation 911 but plenty of conspiracy around Porsche intentionally neutering the Boxster to keep it in a lower priced/performance swim lane. If you want a drop top then only a drop top will scratch that itch!

For what you are going to lose on the 911, you can buy on old Boxster to drive around when the sun shines. See if it fits your needs, and then upgrade to a cab when your lease is up. Assuming you select a good, used Boxster, you won't get too dinged when it comes time to sell it.
I've been on a few Boxster test drives, and had a Boxster S loaner for a long weekend- fun, but small. Hate it with the top up.
