Default GT4 shifter

I'm considering installing this into my 991 GTS and it sounds like a great upgrade however i'm wondering if anyone knows if this will at all negatively affect the transmission? Increase wear with various transmission parts?

I just want to see if there is any downside to installing the GT4 shifter into a 991. Any feedback is appreciated.

I have this upgrade in my 991 C2S.

Basically the only differences between your stock shifter and the GT4 is the shorter shifter height and a stiffer spring that controls the lateral movement. All the other pieces are identical.

So really no downsides in regards to wear and tear.

This numeric shifter seems like a more interesting option.

I have it too. No negative effect at all. Positives are much shorter and quicker feeling shifts. I like it.

I just installed the GT4 shifter in my 991.2 two days ago. I think it's a fantastic mod. Zero play in neutral. Nice, quick short and direct throws. Great mod. I bought one unused from another Rennlister and saved a couple bucks. Totally worth it.

Have it on my .1 gts and its great. Also consider the function first classic **** in combination and it feels amazing. To be completely impartial, the throws require a *slight* amount of effort more than stock but nothing egregious.

I have been also thinking of installing this for quite some time now... as we're aware, it basically turns the 991's into a GT4-like shorter throw shifter. Dealer quoted me 2 hours of labor for the install...

Did you guys install it yourself? Is it DIY friendly?
Thanks!

Depends on how comfortable you are with removing the interior parts.

Oh, by the way, we need to start calling this the "911 R" shifter.

THIS

I actually felt the Function First Aluminum Weighted **** made a larger positive improvement than the short shifter.

I have both, and it's a solid improvement over stock.

For anyone interested, I just took this off my 991S as I'm going back to stock to turn the car in. I had it on the car for approximately 3k miles and loved it. Even though it is "just" a shorter shaft, it made the 5-6-7 transitions much more notchy and firm for me whereas the stock is now pretty vague. Pretty no-brainer upgrade IMO and I did it myself with little effort. Being very careful and laying everything out took me about 2 hours and the removal was about 45 mins since I knew what I was doing. There are several nice DIY guides on Rennlist and 6-speed for those inclined.

Was about to post in the classifieds, but will post here first for $249 shipped. Suncoast is $299+shipping so a nice little savings on a like-new part.

Not much of a deal when you can get it brand new for $222 plus shipping here:

I wonder if the 911 R or new GT3 shifter will fit and/or be better than the GT4 shifter.
