alignment needed when replacing rears only?
I got a bubble in one of my rears. Im going to replace just the 2 rears since the fronts are pretty good
do I need an alignment for rears only? dealer wants to do alignment which seems like it would be unnecessary
side note: I read that I dont need to match the fronts by exact tire type. I may end up doing this anyway but just curious on your thoughts.

Bubbles? Really? Post pics. Tracked?
Is the wear even? How many miles? Car tracking properly? No pulling? Might not need alignment.
Your new rear tires should match the fronts. Don't mix & match tires on a 911.

I use as a common practice every time I change tires to do an alignment. Daily driving can get the car out of alignment due to potholes and uneven roads. As a matter of fact I just replaced my rear tires and the alignment was off. Also, if you don't track the car the negative toe set up will cause your tires to wear on the outside. This will be an opportunity to get the technician to align for daily street driving in order to get a better wear on your tires if you don't track your car.

If I wasn't tracking the car, I'd only align it if I could tell I needed to. Seems like a waste otherwise.

not tracked....I hit something in the road or a pothole sharp enough to pinch the sidewall. its not a huge bulge but its enough to know there is damage to the tire.
wear seems to be even as far as I can see and measure
unfortunately the tires only have about 1500 miles on them since they were replaced by the PO. but Im thinking 1500 is enough to justify replacing both rears(someone feel free to talk me out of this and save $500)

Just replace the one damaged tire. Make sure the wheel is not bent. Make sure the tire shop does a good road force balancing and does run out on the wheel to make sure it is within spec.
Since you hit a pothole. An alignment might be prudent. Won't be cheap.
