I found this interesting article spanning the whole gamut of 991.2 (expect the 991.2 GT3): http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a30644/porsche-911-comparison-test/

I totally agree. .1 Base was too underpowered (relatively). .2 Base just rocks. I got the base engine but had to get the wider C4 for visual appeal and a whole bunch of largely useless options - just because. Base stripper is still one of the best cars out there. I'm paying $121k but I could easily get a .2 stripper @ $91k for 95% of the fun and fulfillment of my ordered car. Who the heck needs black painted spray nozzles anyway?

^^^depends on your needs and wants - I track my car and also wanted some daily factors thus I wanted the .2 with RAS, you can't get that on the base. Also black headlight washers work with PDLS+ plus in black - silver grey don't. The 718S handles better than base, so if how a car handles is your thing you would be better of with a Cayman S over a base 911.
I generally find those types of articles interesting but also a bit unhelpful because everyone is different and thus there is nor right or wrong choice.
Basically there is something for everyone - unique really.

Are the curb weights for the Cab and 4S accurate in their chart, they seem high?
From the brochure on the P-USA site, the S Cab weighs 1530kg and the 4S weighs 1510kg (both with PDK). Also, for comparison ,the CS with PDK weighs 1460kg per the brochure.
I'm surprised that the S Cab and 4S are so close in weight. Has that always been the case?

The R&T weights are probably their cars as optioned. Their base was 3229lb, Porsche spec is 3153lb. To achieve spec you would need the lightest optioning: PCCB, Sport Bucket Seats (available in Europe), the lightest wheels, etc.
Also, at least on my 2004 GT3, Porsche coated the underbody of the car with some rather thick, sticky material supposedly for anti-corrosion purposes during shipment. Likely added 10+lbs.

^ Could be but I thought generally in that case they would show it as weight as tested vs. curb weight.

I read that article when it first came out in the magazine but I find this addendum to it far more interesting:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...track-testing/
It's the track notes from one of their editors, Sam Smith... it's a far better read on how each car feels imo.
