Default Owning a 911 isn't about MPG...but

I have to say that this 991.1 of mine is really surprising me with the gas mileage that it's getting.

I typically carpool to work, so most of the time I'm going about 5 miles to my co-worker's house. Park the car and we drive in w/ the company vehicle.

The times that I do drive is is fraught with traffic for 30 miles (91 freeway Socal), I'll take express and that helps w/ the speed but it's traffic none the less.

Long story short, I'm getting an average of 20.3mpg

Ever since the interstate blew up here in Atlanta last month, I cannot begin to tell you how frustrating my commute has become. Inching along in bumper to bumper traffic in my $100k sports car has seriously made me rethink my staunch opposition to the inevitable future of driverless cars. Bring it on.....

It's amazing that my 430 HP car can get +30 mpgs on the highway, at 75 mph, and turning about 2,250 rpm in 7th gear.

I routinely drive 150 highway miles to enjoy 160 miles of country back roads in 3rd and 4th gear.

Makes me feel good. And allows me to reach a gas station that has fresh 93.

Recent road trip in my 991.2 base. Cruising Colorado and Arizona 2-lanes, with a bit of freeway. Speeds 65-85. A bit of congested driving around Tucson and Sedona. The tanks where I calculated mpg: 28, 28, 31. Very cool.

I was looking at my monthly fuel spend between the 991 and my previous car (audi s4) and in october my average spend dropped from 230 a month to around 190 a month. I was looking and thinking, thats odd, then I realized I bought my 991 in october. Fuel econ has gone from 20mpg to about 26-27mpg.

12-14 mpg for my mostly city driving weeks. Obviously substantially higher when I take it for highway trips. (991.2 C4 7MT)

Default interesting timing on this post

Just yesterday a friend was asking about mpg on the Carrera and I told it was quite remarkable what I could get on the highway vs how this car could perform on a track. He was sort of doubtful when I told him it was near 30 mpg. Luckily for me on my nearly 600 mile trip to FL earlier this year I had a photo of the run...

But I did not show him the one taken after a few hours of driving around VIR (was not a race situation, but more like very fast laps).

I'm just over 30mpg for highway when I commute.

Mostly in Sport or Sport + and suspension button pressed.... so like 15.

Driving up to Hershey the other weekend and got nearly 30 mpg. Of course, when I put it in Sport mode for the back roads it dropped a lot LOL!

Good time to ask this question, since it's been in my mind the past few road trips.

Does anyone with 7MT think the "auto stop/start" function effects MPGs? I think with auto stop/start engaged (turned on) we get a slight bump/increase in MPGs on the highway. Strange, but true. Why? I understand the effect in city driving with stop & go traffic, but why on the highway? I also understand the effect on a PDK car, but I'm talking a manual trans, here. Thoughts? Maybe I need to re-read the Manual, because a vaguely remember something.

According to the trip meter, I got 9.1L/100km average with my Turbo S on the day that I brought it home, nearly 600km to the first tank which included highway driving around 125kph, a half hour in stop-and-go because of an accident, at least an hour's worth of city driving and some hooning with the car playing with the turbos.

I've had better and worse since depending on where and how quickly I was driving, but overall it is the equivalent, or better, than my Audi S4 ('14) was. Not bad for a 580hp AWD car with 305 rear tires, I'd say.
