Default 2014 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS 991.1 and Porsche Precision Track iOS app

Good day everyone,

I have a 2014 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS 991.1 with Armytrix™ valvetronic exhaust that I would like to take to a track day. I checked out the Porsche Precision Track app for iOS and it looks amazing, just disappointed that it only works with the GT4, GT3, GT3RS and newer models with Porsche Connect.

Questions:

1. Does anyone know if the wifi connection the app needs to work with the Porsche can be retrofitted to my GTS 991.1?

2. Has anyone checked if the Porsche Precision Track app works with an OBD-II wifi transmitter. Something like this product ...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ELM327-WiFi-...-/111802076792

The idea here being that you plug the the wifi-dongle into the OBD-II port of the vehicle and then link the Porsche Precision Track app with it via wifi.

Would that work?

Thanks for any advice and feedback.

Regards.

Highly recommend Harry's Lap Timer. And if you want engine data just add a Go Point from Amazon. But I wouldn't do that unless you're tracking regularly.

You have a 2014 GTS?

I was hoping this app would work with my GTS too but it looks like it doesn't or at least not seamlessly.

Thanks for the reply Rambler_13,

yes, I have a 2014 GTS with Armytrix™ exhaust. Such an epic car - I love it!

To what extent have you experimented with the Porsche app and your 2014 GTS?

Cheers.

Hey charlduplessis, I was asking about 2014 because I thought they only made the 991.1 GTS for the 2015 & 16 model years. Mine is a 2015.

I haven't tried the track app yet but have been meaning to although it sounds like it may not function with our cars. I will give it a try within the next day or so to see if it even connects but others may have already tried. I was really hoping for it to work in order to easily extract the engine data.

Hes in SA, they, along with Europe and most other ROW markets had a 2014 MY vs us where the GTS 991.1 started in MY 2015

Ahh, got it, thanks.

I just tried to connect quickly during lunch and was unable to connect due to no wifi connection. So did the 991.1 and 981 GT cars come with wifi connections but the other models didn't? I can see the app being recommended for the GT cars but to only work with them seems odd given that we have sport chrono too.

Morning,

I emailed Porsche Cape Town asking if the app would work on my GTS and this was the reply I received.

Good Day Charl
Thanks for the email.
We have done some investigation. The pre requirement is essentially that the car must have the latest Porsche Communication Manager version 4 as hardware. Therefore, because your vehicle has the previous generation PCM, it is not possible.
Thanks

Hi Randr,

you're referring to the onboard lap timer in my Porsche right?

I've played around with it, just pressing START and LAP with the small control arm on the right of the steering wheel and it seems to work great.

How does one download the recorded lap info though?

Thanks.

Plug a USB drive into the glovebox, you can upload to the USB and download the lap info off of there.

Reviving this thread for all 991.1 GTS owners, have you guys managed to connect your car to Porsche Track Precision app?

The Porsche Track Precision app asks me to connect Wifi of the car to my smartphone but I am not sure the PCM on my 2016 991.1 Targa 4 GTS has Wifi function, how to know if my car has this function?
